Indeed, but they give Michigan all those wins from 1879. They get a decade of results before we started in 1892.

I was referring to the "claimed" titles knock. I have always heard media types say notre dame has 11 titles and never 11 claimed titles. It seems that "claimed" is only for Alabama.

Yeah, and you can make an argument that we should claim a few that we don't, so either way, 18 (current) is pretty accurate. Some of these people give more credibility to that bogus UCF claim than some of ours we actually have a right to. Things were extremely different back in those days, and that's what people don't understand. There wasn't a way of deciding an undisputed national champion. It's not like we're just claiming championships for the heck of it, like UCF did. If you wanna say we "claim" them, that's fine. But if you do, you have to say that for just about everyone who claimed a title back in those days.

I know we have a flag for that 1941 team.......but.......that one is difficult to defend. That probably yields us the "claimed" terminology.

1941 is indeed the shakiest of all, but I'd replace it with 1966 and not lose a minute of sleep.
