ESPN's new Roll Tide Commercial

The speeding ticket part reminded me of a story. My mother was driving me back to school for my sophomore year, I am from a state "up north", we had gotten to Birmingham, and it was pretty late at night, around 10 PM, and my mother got pulled over for speeding. The officer asked her what she was doing in Alabama, since her plates were from pretty far out of state, and she told him she was driving me back to school. Then he asked her what school I went to, and I said Bama. He took her license back to the squad car, and she was so upset about getting a ticket.

The officer came back with a warning for her, and gave her a "Roll Tide". I let her know if she had been taking me to the Barn she probably would have gotten a ticket.

Roll Tide.

I buried a friend a couple months ago. He attended the Florida game and then was found dead in his apartment that night. He had a casket with a bama throw blanket over it, and the preacher ended it with a Roll Tide. So this commercial is spot on! I love it.

Roll Tide

What I LOVE about this new commercial is that regardless of the fact that 'barn ended up undefeated, SEC champs & playing for their first outright & not-on-probation NC ever (of course, they've only been in the football busine$$ for about 120 years now), ESPN makes a college football ad and passes over them to focus on a TRUE football tradition & power: THE University of Alabama. The timing of its release could NOT have been more appropriate!

This once again points out to the aubs that regardless of where their tilting the field gets them (relative to BAMA: their ONLY touchstone), they are still the back seat, red-headed stepsister to the true football power in the state of Alabama. We'll be back in the hunt next fall and they'll once again be mired in mediocrity & anger at their currently vaunted HC & staff!

RTR!

i have to admit that while watching the clip in this thread i didnt like it one bit.. although seeing it on tv takes it to a different level in me eyes.. things like this remind me, recruits and opposing teams that we are back atop the national scene..it just feels good..

Another shining example of the corruption in our state.... LOL.

I was asked to propose the toast at my stepdaughter's ('01 Bama grad) wedding this summer in San Diego. Many of her Bama friends were there.

Yes, I did work in a ROLL TIDE and they loved it.

It's a way of life. Roll Tide.

Gotta love the harmonica playing in the background.

I'm an English major at UA (sadly, only for another 6 months...), so I had to take 4 semesters of a foreign language and I chose to take Italian. If you've ever taken at 100-level foreign language class, you know a lot of it is just asking the teacher how to say this or how to say that in the language. My 101 teacher was from Sicily and one of the girls in my class asked her once, "Lidia, how would you say Roll Tide in Italian?" She replied, "It does not translate. Roll Tide is international." :biggrin2:

Needless to say, love this commercial. It made me proud that, while a certain other institution which shall remain nameless is making our state look bad, THE University of Alabama is still being recognized for our tradition and the pride we take in ourselves, our team and our school.

Roll Tide.

I have a friend that is a barner...He and his wife ( She is an Alabama fan ) went to the first Nascar race at Indy. He told his wife "I bet I could yell Roll Tide and someone will yell back at me" so he yelled "Roll Tide" and sure enough he had SEVERAL responses. He told me this story and got a good laugh out of it at a party we were all at. I told him he could have yelled "War eagle" and no one would have known what he was talking about......Kind of took the sting out of his story.
