Not good. Lived and worked in the LaPlace area years ago. WAY too much water and low ground in that area for a storm like this.
I told her since she won't leave, keep a hatchet handy in case she has to bust down walls or the roof so her & the kids can escape.
After Harvey - having the right tools sometimes meant life or death. It very well might next week as well.

My brother lives in Gulfport less than half mile from the shore. He and his friends are going to ride it out. They are in a large cinder/cement building and feel pretty safe.
Is he around 2nd Street? My in-laws live right on 90 around the 2nd Street area.

Gas for the gennie and some protein and charcoal for the grill! Just bad timing for us though… we just bought a house that’s on the backend of a remodel… so I have 2 houses at the moment to worry about!
I had a house in Houston and one in Mobile when I moved here in 1988 and Cat 5 Gilbert (the Hurricane Bowl storm) was in the gulf

Gulfport, Ms
I live in Diamondhead, Hancock county Ms, two hours ago they put out a mandatory evacuation order for all costal and low lying areas. Going from door to door now making sure folks have left. So far everyone has. If this thing jogs East just 10 to 20 miles East we are going to get slammed. But as I am out checking on evacuations it appears almost everyone has done the necessary preps. And Ida was just upgraded to a cat 2.

They've pretty much emptied all the gulf oil platforms

I was in North Alabama for work when Katrina hit. We had to fill up asap, and get back to the office in Montgomery - everywhere was running out of gas. We couldn't go in the field for a few weeks to month while it was getting back to normal. Even the ALDOT pumps on Coliseum were running low, for emergencies only.

We're on the eastern shore of Mobile Bay, so on its current path, we should OK barring any freak Tornado activity. These things often turn to the north as they get closer to landfall, so still keeping a close eye on it. Prayers lifted for those in SW Miss and Louisiana. Be safe!
I'm in Mobile, but closer to Mississippi than Mobile proper. Only thing I worry about is all the pine trees. I make the kids sleep in the living room during storms just in case.
