Everything was great at A-day until...(OK, about the band and AD politics)

First of all, let me say that the MDB is a major part of the tradition that is "Saturday Game Days." I will always hold what they have done, and do, in high regard.

HOWEVER, I can't say I pay a lot of attn. to what they actually play on the field. If my attention is going to be piqued, give me Getz and Coltrane and Ben Webster and Joshua Redman and Art Pepper and Charlie Parker and Ornette Coleman. Hell, Clark Terry. A little Miles would be great also.

Not gameday material, is it? :cool2:
Woah, now we have a real connection.

Music is my life. Well, my career and my life. You get the point. Anyway, Kind of Blue will always be the sweetness that gets me going, even if it wouldn't get the crowd charged during the game...

Cheers,

Give me "Autumn Leaves" as done by Cannonball Adderly...that'll do it EVERY time...I think it would make a GREAT gameday song...sort of...

Well, I can think of a few upbeat jazz charts that would get the crowd moving, as well as some more modern swing bands (Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, anyone?). Somehow, that just seems like it would be more suitable for LSU, though. ;)

And I've always thought that we should be playing the Crimson Tide (movie) theme. The first half is very powerful, and... well, just seems fitting...

I came real close to mentioning "Kind of Blue" but I figured I had digressed to far already. It's always racked up somewhere...best jazz album of all time, IMO.

While it isn't New Orleans, I spent many evenings listening to music in Mphs...good music can be found over there.

I still say Molly's has the one of the best Margurita's I've ever tasted...gosh, some of the nights on Madison Ave...Beale...LOL.

I'm obviously of the "old school." Heck, I'm just old. Not many of the songs y'all mentioned rang a bell with me. Now, I did recognize TerryP's jazz hall of fame. I was in high school band way back in . . . in . . . well, way back. We mainly played marches so I guess that's why I like 'em. Ain't likely to exchange my crimson and white for maize and blue, though. Heck, I don't have season tickets so y'all can play what you want to.

We agree. Have you heard the Columbia remaster that was released just a few years ago (2000)? My buddy remastered it, it's stunning...

Tell me about it! I worked for seven years at the studio right next door before building my own place.

Mmmmm, Molly's.

No, I haven't. But, I'll be looking for it as soon as I post this!

No Kidding?!?! So, you know Robert Chapman? What about Deborah Busby?

Between there and Wet Willie's(?)...spent a few nights at the French Quarter Inn.

I was trying to think of the name of a resturant just the other day. Chinese. The guy who owns it used to have his place in Clark Tower...Ghengis Kahn's at that time. Opened a new place in the late 80's...sort of an open kitchen atmostphere...blue/purple neon type lighting?

It's been years, but I know Robert. Don't recall Deborah.

BTW, I haven't heard an update, but Robert's seriously ill (or was a couple of months ago). I'll see if I can find out more info...

Hrmm, doesn't ring a bell. I'll ask around.

I think I'm going to have to hire a sitter and get some Molly's in the next week or so. Yummy.

Anyone else think "...The cheer they use now (Can't remember its name for some reason) really does suck the life out of things, especially after a spell-out cheer.
That would be the lame one....."We're behind you, Bama, so go go." Cheerleader sounds bored with it, too. I sit this one out always and get ready for the calming influence of the "awards and homecoming" venue.

Rammer Jammer: Need more of it. I'd like to do it after an incredible defensive series during the game and a great TD (like the first one against UF). As for meaning, it's a cheer, don't over analyze it. Just beat the hell out of them.

And, saying (or hearing) the word Hell is not going to send you there. Get a grip, people.

Player, I will lead the parade if RJ is deleted from the games again. Some have the attitude like, if you see enthusiasm, just kill it.

RTR.

Most of the students and fans don't like it shaggy, and we can discuss it all we want because that is the purpose of this forum.

You get over it.

The team likes it -- it helps get them hyped for the fourth quarter. We in the band like playing it; so, I'm pretty sure it will continue to be played.

Maybe we'll quit playing Rammer Jammer. Lots of people have complained about that one -- and I mean LOTS!

I'm a Junior at Alabama, and didn't the students already VOTE on a referendum to this issue...

The motion to remove the "rammer jammer" from our football post/pre game was defeated by a margin of.......drum roll please..........

98% in favor of "Rammer Jammer"

2% wanted it removed from our football post/pre game

I'm sorry, but the MAJORITY of the student body (evident by our referendum) want to keep "rammer jammer"

the "lots of people" that your are referring to, are the 2% minority

Rammer Jammer will stay forever, I promise :) It's not going ANYWHERE

We can always hold ANOTHER referendum...lol

roll tide roll

You're Wrong

The School already had a referendum on the issue.....

the motion to remove rammer jammer wasn't just defeated...

IT WAS CRUSHED!!!!!!!!

The students made their voices clear, 98% were in favor of keeping it.....

those are facts, sorry :)

I'm not quite sure where you are getting your "inside" information from.....

I remember the referendum, I remember voting, and I remember the OVERWHELMING outcome....

they printed the results in the Crimson White, 98% want to keep it :)

also, the only reason the school allowed the referendum was to appease the "over sensitive" ppl who see ppl having fun and just have to put a stop to it...

It seems like the school would have some sort of vote, a referendum if you will, and see what the student body felt about it.

Why don't we just do away with Rammer Jammer, Yea Alabama, and everything else. I say we should play Sharin' the Night Together by Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show and Kokomo by the Beach Boys.

We could build a tower with a "Touchdown Bryant" that towers in from the south endzone. It could have a moving mouth that is synced to recordings of Coach Bryant. Oh, and a giant puffing Chesterfield too.

I like it. It is better than "Saints Go Marching In" or something like that. At least the band tries to play some "sort of" contemporary music. I really like the songs they play at bball games. They usually have a new song every week.

on a personal note, my hs bball team came out to a song called "dig my grave" by they might be giants. don't get me wrong i like tmbg, we were just glad no one could understand the song's lyrics. our coach (old school southern) lobbied all year for "the race is on" i think by eddie rabbit.
