Favorite Alabama Game You Attended In Person

One of my long time memories is for Bear's last game. The 1982 Liberty Bowl against Illinois and QB Tony Eason.
1. Been going since the early sixties, and I have never seen an Alabama team (or any other for that matter) so tense and almost terrified during the game. We had finished the season with 3 straight losses, and winning the last one was MANDATORY. The kids were so tight it was palpable. We weren't very good but had 7 interceptions including 3 by J. Castille to clinch the game.

2. It was as cold as I have ever been in my life. Luckily we had some anti freeze to sip. After the game was such an explosion of emotion and happy sadness as you ever saw. 21-15 Bama.

1993 Sugar Bowl was second, but that is another story.

I remember watching this one of TV with my dad. I was about to turn 13 in a few days. I remember the ole Bear in that parka coat. I bet he about froze to death too!

It's sad to me that's the last time we'd see him prowling the sideline.

He died the day before I turned 13 on Jan. 26, 1983. I'll never forget it. It's etched in my memory when my Jr. High coach walked into the room that afternoon and told us Coach Bryant has passed away.

I've got every newspaper that my aunt could find that commemorates his death and career.

My favorites and most fun that I've seen in person (in chronological order):

* Notre Dame in Birmingham in 1986 - Waxed the Irish, Bennett's sack, I was 12 and in awe of the setting.

* Tennessee in Birmingham in 1987 - We were at the Memphis game the week before in Memphis where we got upset. Jeff Dunn threw about a 90 yd. touchdown pass to Pierre Goode. Very healing and the crowd was wild. We slaughtered the Vols.

* 1992 vs. Florida in the first SEC title game in Birmingham - sat in the first row behind Bama's bench. You can see my little brother waving an Alabama flag in the background of the TV telecast. Cold but oh so worth it when Langham got that pick 6! Didn't feel the cold after that.

* 1994 vs. Florida in the SEC title game in Atlanta - We lost but it was a great back and forth game and a lot of fun. Still hold it against Stallings for not going for two.

* 1996 vs. LSU in Baton Rouge - my only Saturday night game in Death Valley; basically for the SEC West title; their fans were wild pre-game; Shaun Alexander had almost 300 yds. rushing and set a freshman rushing record; we won 26-0 and their fans left early - so much fun!

* 1996 vs. Auburn in Birmingham - Snatched the victory from the Barn and broke their hearts with that last minute drive and Kitchens to Riddle TD. Was getting in the car after the game and heard on the radio Stallings had retired.

* 1999 SEC Championship vs. Florida in Atlanta - fun seeing Dubose wax Spurrier; Milon's electric punt return TD; had a big man pick six by a DL; throttled the Gators and Spurrier was humiliated

* 2011 vs. LSU in T-Town - the buildup and atmosphere at Gameday and during the game was truly amazing for the "Game of the Century" even though we lost

* 2014 (Jan. 1, 2015) playoff game vs. Ohio State in NOLA - atmosphere was electric being the first year of the playoffs; sat at the edge of Alabama fan section where it intersected with OSU fans; lots of back and forth, very intense! Tough loss but one of the better neutral site environments I've seen; walking out of the stadium, saw and met Cyrus Kouandijo and briefly shared our grief over the loss

It's hard to pick just one. They all gave me a level of excitement that was amazing. I guess it also has to do with your personal circumstances around the game, who you were with, etc. If I had to choose, I would have to say that 1999 SEC title game one would probably be it. Battling with Florida for supremacy for a decade, it was so much fun to see us dominate Spurrier like that. They had kind of gotten the better of us since that '92 game, beating us in the '93, '94, and '96 SEC title games. We beat them in the regular season in the wild, OT game in Gainesville when Shaun Alexander had that OT TD run. But a lot of people called it a fluke and expected Florida to win the rematch. The joy walking out of the Georgia Dome that night was off the charts!

I forgot one. During my senior year at the Capstone, I attended the last Iron Bowl at Legion Field.

1969, Alabama 33, Ole Miss 32,Archie Manning vs Scott Hunter, over 1000 yards of offense, first prime time night college game televised. Archie had 436 yds passing and 104 yds rushing. Still have not seen a better game. The Alabama fans were still chanting "Go to hell, Ole Miss, go to hell" walking down the ramps and leaving the stadium.

That SEC Championship was memorable. Myself and some golfing buddies rented a tour bus and driver to go from Altadena Country Club in Birmingham. Well, Gators scored first and their fans started chirping. Then we proceeded to start the beatdown and in the 3rd quarter DL Reggie Grimes intercepted a pass and rumbled into the end zone to extend the lead and those obnoxious Florida fans POURED out of the stadium. All the while I am yelling; "where ya'll going, we ain't done yet??" On the way home we have the driver pull the bus through the Krystal drive-thru in Carollton, Ga. Girl thought I was kidding when I leaned out the window and ordered 50 double cheeseburgers Krystals And to look back and think that Dubose beat Spurrier twice in one season. Fun trip!
