Unless the committee approaches its work this year differently from last year, being #4 and winning out is no guarantee. This isn't like the polls. Teams will move up or down each week based on whatever factors the committee weighs most heavily each week, sometimes even dropping after winning big.

Lack of a conference championship game cost TCU last year. Don't think for a second it can't hurt us this year if we win out but Ole Miss does too...

Totally, different league we are in though. I would not put us in the same boat as TCU was last year.

Disagree. The higher we are and if we keep on winning gives us better options for making the top 4 in the end. Beat LSU and we are at #2. That's a pretty strong if we win out and even if we don't play in the SECCG.

I think the top four will be the four out of the top 6 or 7 you see here. Not much will move like last year.

I'm speechless.... I don't think we deserve to be at no. 4, at least right now, but I'll take it. The way I look at it, the playoff starts now for us. Bama is no. 4 and LSU is no. 2... we're fighting for no. 2 spot...

I'm sorry. This means utterly nothing. This is a picture taken right now. Where the teams stand right now. And I get it that some media morons are upset over this, but it literally means nothing. This will change next week. And the week after, and then again. We may win out and DROP in the rankings.

This isn't like the polls, and it's not like the BCS.

The Big 12 teams have yet to play their toughest games. That will increase their rankings.

But I will say this. It's apparent that the committee understands which league is the toughest league. That's encouraging, despite the moronic media's inability to get it.

Still so much football left to be played. I really believe it's going to be a chaotic November.

And Ole Miss still has to lose, we don't go to SEC Champ game, we won't be in even if we win out. The 2011 LSU-Bama rematch is what created this committee crap IMHO.

I'm shocked that we are at #4.

I'm also shocked that analysts in this day and age can still get this worked up over initial rankings that will look completely different in a few weeks.

I don't necessarily agree with the "win and we're in" thought process. First, we need to win and Ole Miss has to lose another conference game. Second, there is no accounting for how the committee will react to TCU and Baylor playing their toughest opponents over the next few weeks. Or how they will react if Stanford continues to win or if Iowa manages to win the Big 10.

Still a lot of football to be played that can impact how the committee thinks.

So we are ranked 4. Still play LSU ranked 2. Also we play 20th ranked Mississippi State. So who thinks if Ole Miss were to win out the committee would move them up 14 spots of Bama?
