Good recap. Very concerning about personnel and schemes.

I especially agree on your last point about offensive game calling. Way too many downfield throws/patterns and not enough shorter options and screens.
Looking at the short passing game that LSU utilized last night there is a night and day difference. Bama is facing the prospect of teams coming into Denny Stadium and dominating the game. We have seen that play before and it is a bitter experience!

Florida State wrap-up: Suddenly, the Questions Are Too Many to Answer

There was always the chance that the addition of some 50 new players and offensive mastermind-slash-mongoose Gus Malzahn was going to give Alabama a much kind of different game than the one it was expecting. But Alabama never expected this.

Florida State controlled this game. It was no fluke, no joke. The mongoose Malzahn killed another cobra. And he really didn’t even have to get that creative about it.

Using " the offensive line looked like the Philadelphia Eagles" was a nice, or painful, way to get the point across. Bravo, @JessN , bravo.

Good stuff Jess. This game exposed this staff and their leader in my opinion. They will need to make the adjustment or be gone...that is, as long as we can afford to fire him.

It's hard to believe how bad the linebacker play was. Wrong run fits, juked off their feet more than once, and some lack of effort at times.
There's a video going around of Lawson getting destroyed by a lead blocker on a simple end around .....

We are about to truly learn how good DeBoer, Grubb and our other coaches are. I coached (different sport) for 18 years.

I have had to scramble lineups ... scrap strategies ... refocus assistant coaches ... retrain players to concentrate on the skills they were actually good at (versus the "show boat" skills they kept trying to perform ... badly) ... and adjust approaches to teamwork. All while trying to keep the players' spirits up and inspire them to top performance.

If I'd been wildly successful at the above I'd probably be coaching at some top college, instead of being a Seniors Pickleball competitor....

Agree! FSU was hungry, we acted like we didn't want to be there. Like last years bowl game.
I also think FSU put all of their chips in on winning this game. Specifically, going out and getting Malzahn, and a mobile quarterback that Malzahn could work with. Everyone knows that’s Bama’s weakness. That being said, I believe Bama would have lost to almost anyone Saturday. It was a really dismal effort.

I have no confidence left in this coach. He has changed the culture at Alabama in practically one year. From watching his confused do nothing demeanor on the sideline, I don't believe he has any ability to correct this. He has no clue about how to get his players to even give competitive effort. He doesn't meet with poor performing players during the game to coach them up.

Please do the honorable thing and go ahead and announce your resignation at the end of the year. You don't have a clue how to coach here!

I asked ChatGPT to give me a list of every FBS team since 2000 that has lost its first game and still managed to win 10 games in regular season. The answer came back NC State in 2002 and Clemson in 2024. That’s it…
I never would have guessed NC State.

After the loses last year to Vanderbit and Oklahoma, and now FSU, I think the Bama Nation has been shook to it's core. We expect to have "The Coach" and not just a coach. We want legends!
