You know, what a difference does a week make. Defense played their most undoubtly the best football, and we actually put a lot of pressure on Brantley throughtout the whole game. Upshaw had a monster game and so did Barron. We saw the defense communicating each other from the get-go whenever Gators' offense changed their looks, and that was very very encouraging. At one point, the announcers were saying Donta had a few one-on-one sessions with Saban on calling the right defensive adjustments in preparation for this game. I'm not sure if that is true, but he certainly had a very good game calling the plays and making the right adjustments.

WOW! I love it! Great read, Jess, not just from an analytical standpoint but also from the sheer journalism.
We are most fortunate to have on TideFans a writer who is so well schooled in the fine points of football and who is also such a great wordsmith.
Keep those cards and letters coming.

What word hasn't been used about your analysis and write up? I'll use one the newer generation uses and hope I understand its meaning correctly, sick. In case that was not what it meant, how about awesome. Thanks Jess.

Awesome writeup.

Upshaw and the D was a beast.

I just wish GMac would stop taking so many unneccessary hits. His brashness will evenually get him hurt to where he misses gametime.

the thing is with a young def as we have, they will play poorly at times on the road and play better at home. We will be tested against USCe on the road in a hostile environment. Coaching will be key to help the youngsters continues to weather the storm in their first season. Urban Meyer stubborn refusal to either change QB's or run an offence that suits John Brantly will cost them dearly against the better teams, fortunately for them UGA sucks, and nobody else has enough talent to press them.

Who isn't drinking the kool-aid? Yeah we have a young d, but some of the best defensive coaches in the nation teaching them! Great job Jess on the article!
Even Herbie had a sip of the Kool-Aid.

Jess, that was indeed your best. The comparison of Meyer and Pillow was especially enjoyable for myself and my fellow history buffs. I hope this year produces more of these kind of follow-ups.

Thanks again, Jess.

Great read Jess! Is it weird that I heard Dennis Miller's voice when I read it? References to Gideon Pillow at the Battle of Fort Donelson, Typhoid Mary, & Dante’s Inferno seemed Dennis Milleresque.

Well written Jess. You even threw in a little history for color.
Your analysis was to the point and complete W/O Crimson Glasses.
Teams that haven't gone thru our 'Grinder' may not believe, and I hope they don't... RTR.
