I always wondered what got him taken off college football coverage. He certainly knew his stuff. Maybe it was the problems he was having with the IRS. But what I suspect it was, was that he wasn't a cute female.
Some of the new breed of sideline reporters (read: attractive, young, female) know what they're talking about, but others are just there to be eye candy. And that's sad, because a good sideline reporter can give you useful information during the game. Too many of the ones we have now don't know the players, haven't done their homework, bumble their words and don't really tell you something you either need to know or haven't already seen yourself in the broadcast up until that point.
Back when Karsten was on the sidelines and Gottfried was still sharp, the Franklin-Gottfried-Karsten trio was the best on television by far.
