Re: Vandy's Franklin offered Penn State HC Job

Agreed, and it looks like Vandy's glory days are gone unfortunately.
That's the reason Coach Smart should NOT take this job if offered. It would be down hill all the way until FIRED then he'd have to be a position coach somewhere.

Recommendation: Kirby, don't even interview for that job.

Someone keeps saying that Cochran would go with Coach Smart wherever he was selected as head coach. Would Vandy pay him (Cochran) as much as Bama? NO!!! Would their facilities be as nice as Bama's? NO!!! In fact, their facilities might look like a garbage DUMP compared to Bamas.

I wouldnt take the job if I were him given where they are. They still have 2 years of restrictions and rebuilding after that not to mention all the PR issues to deal with as well. Imo, he has Vandy at a perennial 7-9 win level now. I would wait for a better job that doesnt have all the baggage.
He's young and can suffer for 2 years then he will be competing for B1G Championships and NC's. I honestly think Franklin can be very successful there.

First question at the press conference should be about the rape case at Vandy and the allegations of a cover up. Especially in light of recent events at Penn St. Are the cover up allegations true? Probably not. But it should be asked anyway.

Re: Vandy's Franklin offered Penn State HC Job

Congrats to Franklin. He has proven he can work wonders with limited player skills and very limited facilities. That is quite a feat in itself. He made the right decision because he had Vandy playing at the peak of their capabilities; something that I doubt he could sustain, given that Tennessee is on the rebound and beating the likes of Georgia, Florida and South Carolina on a regular basis just is not in the cards, given their limited resources. He struck while the iron was hot and will do very well at Penn State.
However, this leaves Vandy in a huge hole. Look for them to return to competing with Kentucky for th celler in the East.

I think he'll do good at Penn State.

Wonder if Chad Morris tries out Vandy now?

They might keep him in Nashville if the Titans offered - otherwise, he gone.

Listening to local sports radio here, the VU PTB are really making a push to keep him.
Wonder what kind of cash he makes at Vandy. It's a private school so they don't have to make it public. I think I've read it's currently ~$3M/year...

That's what I've heard. Bill King thinks it is in that range.

I think what JF has been lobbying for are more upgrades in facilities. Vandy promised JF and built an indoor practice facility last year at $31 million. Today on Finebaum, David Climer joked that that finally brought Vandy in to the '80's. He's also wanting some upgrades to the stadium, which I think Vandy is committing to. Bill King also mentioned today that Vandy has lowered their admission standards so that JF can sign some of the recruits that he's after. He must be one heckuva salesman to get Vandy to commit so much money to football.

I am glad to hear this and hope he stays. Vandy has potential with all their resources. They finally have a coach with success and has shown them what a successful program can do. Hopefully the PTB at Vandy can get him to stay.
