I can see displaying confidence in oneself and one's team in front of the team, (away from the cameras) to inpire more confidence (kind of like Oddball in Kelly's Heroes: "All dem positive waves!)
It may be fool's optimism, but in front of the team, a leader makes his teammates believe.
