Seems like they are having Gang initiations on the Plains as Zach Etheridge and fellow teamates jump Deronn Furr. Beat him bad enough that he had to be helped off the field by trainers.
As of Monday, Tubbs still had not talked to Furr. That is pretty telling in of itself.

"Nothing's changed," Tuberville said, adding that he hadn't spoken with the freshman safety.

When pressed on the subject, Tuberville cut off the questioner, tersely saying, "Next question."

It was Etheridge who first squared off with Furr before several other defensive backs jumped onto the pile. Once coaches and trainers broke up the brawl, Furr was left sitting on hands and knees without his helmet and needed a great deal of assistance from a trainer to stagger to a nearby tent

So Far, our in-state media is giving Wingnut a pass, just like they always do. If this happened at Bama, the media would be all over it. There is a reason why Tubby is being mum on this. There was also another fight or two at the Auburn practice the other day. I guess you can decide for yourself whether or not that is a good thing.

How will Ears' explain his recruiting efforts if his players lose the "better character" label? As soon as BAMA came back on the seen in AL, AU has quickly started to look more and more pathetic. The sad thing is that instead of covering it as a thug mentality (ganging up on one guy) it will be spun as the great intensity that AU players have even during camp.

"I don't believe this happened at all. CTT has only "character" guys on his team not a bunch of thugs. Auburn men don't act that way. It was probably just some miscommunication as to where Bible study was being held later on that night. Just a bunch of bammers starting rumors and trying to make something out of nothing." - Typical Auburn fan

:eek2:
Ok I'm a girl, and you guys on the forum may have a different take on this, and I understand football is a rough-n-tough sport, but when an upperclassman deliberately starts a fight with a young freshman, with everyone else piling on, then proceed to beat him up to make a point, that is wrong.
I understand about not giving a 100% or whatever and you get in his face and make it clear he needs to step up his game, or even a scuffle, but this seems a bit extreme to me.
There are rumors on the other message boards that Furr may not return to Auburn, but may transfer. I'm not sure barn fans even know whats going on, and from that article sounds like Ear$ doesn't care what happens to Furr. Also sounds like Ear$ has some dissention on his team.
Just my thoughts.

I think most everyone feels the same way. There is nothing wrong with getting in a guy's face and motivating him to give 100%. But, having multiple players jump on him from behind and then practically beat him is ridiculous. Tuberville is just treating this like it's no big deal, not saying anything so that hopefully it will go away. The media is doing it' best right now to try to give Tubby a free pass on this. The guy on Jox right now has been talking about it, and he has been trying his best to change the subject to other things.

The barn may be lucky to come out of this without having to defend a lawsuit. If I'm the parent of this kid, I want some answers.

Seems like tubs in on a gag order. If that were to happen with us, 60 Minutes would show up at the athletic complex.

awww shucks people. They were just drawing plays in the dirt (their typical playbook) and in their overzealousness at trying to see the full schematic, a couple players accidentaly fell on the kid. It was upon trying to pick themselves up that they accidentally punched, stomped, elbowed and flying burrito'd the poor kid. Nothing to see here now move along.

That may be why Tubbs hasn't commented. Furr may have the goods on Auburn too.

My barner hubby is spinning this as the Furr kid being mad about being moved from offense to defense, demonstrating an attitude problem as a result, and getting what he had coming to him.
Says the kid left after the fight and hasn't been seen since.

Now I don't care what the reason was for the conflict. The fact of the matter is, if this were a minor problem, the players would've found a way to work it out, even after the physical altercation. This whole thing sounds "broken" to me. I in no way believe this is just players blowing off steam. Sounds like a general discontent and we all know where that leads )see our team last half of last season).

Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of folks. :)

Now lets not jump on them yet guys. For all we know it could have been an initiation ritual for the local Moo Psi Moo fraternity.

MOOO PSI MOOO!!!

According to the Barners, atleast at the time he switched positions, it was Furr's decision to switch and was happy about the move. I guess that story doesn't fit now.

Safety Zac Etheridge did shed some light on the Saturday fight, however, saying that he wanted to send a message to the freshmen about practicing with the proper level of effort.

So their idea of "sending a message" is to beat up a freshman. How manly of them.

It was Etheridge who first squared off with Furr before several other defensive backs jumped onto the pile.

This goes to show that the mentality of "sending a message" is instilled in the team. To me its an indication that Ears encourages this, even if its indirectly. Especially considering how he has blown off the subject. If I was a parent of a possible recruit, I wouldn't send my child there even I were a fan. One, I dont want them beat up by a gang, and second, I dont want them taught the low morals thats obviously running rampant on the AU team right now.

And if this is how they treat their own players, opposing teams had better keep an extra eye out this year for cheap shots by the barner players.

I found it very, very odd that Tubby didn't at least give a reasonable answer when asked where the kid was...

Tubbs is the endearing, media-friendly, lovable, teddy bear head coach. He NEVER, EVER gives a "no comment, next question" response...

This whole situation reminds you of "A Few Good Men." Tubbs ordered a "Code Red" and it went all wrong...

The whole "he's studying for finals" explanation for missing practice just don't fly...especially if he was taking a sociology class...:)
