With the transfer portal, couldn't using the vehicle with players after hours be justified as recruiting/pacifying your current roster? Coaches say the hardest part of the transfer portal is having to recruit your current players.
The problem, to me, with that argument is that neither player, as far as I know of, was in the transfer portal and there wouldn't be a reason to re-recruit them into staying at Georgia. Also, wasn't the player that survived supposed to declare for the draft?

I’d imagine the “no personal use” rule comes from the insurance company. The big question is does the university enforce the rule or do they just look the other way? If she had a fender bender when she was going to the store in the afternoon (for personal reasons) would they have been responsible for repairs or would they have told her it was her problem?
I’m sure in that scenario, she would just be checking out the stocker at the Piggly Wiggly to see if he still had eligibility.

This statement from UGA AD Josh Brooks last week:

We want to emphasize that these individuals were not engaged in Athletic Department duties around the time of this incident. "Our review is preliminary at this time, and the Athletic Department is fully cooperating with law enforcement officials to determine all the facts surrounding this tragedy”.

So my question(s): So do we have any statements from the two survivors, particularly the staffer? How did this situation arise? Whose job is it to provide supervision or oversight of the recruiting analyst role? Are they (analysts) delegated duties via the Athletic Department or take direction from the coaching staff? Is this an isolated occurrence or is type of thing commonplace? And, what exactly put these two staffers and two student athletes together (which could be in violation of university policy)?

Look, people make mistakes. Young people especially. It could simply be a situation of “youthful indiscretion” that led to tremendously tragic circumstances.

But there are still a bunch of questions here needing answers.

I work in the insurance field, we write a lot of primary and HNOA and there is a big problem here. Pull up your chairs and fill up your popcorn tins because this one is going to get ugly between UGA’s automobile insurance carrier and the families of the deceased trying to sue UGA and the person behind the wheels family. There was a major exclusion with the automobile policy and this was no recruiting / recruit entertainment event.

The crazy thing is this stuff likely happens every day, just without the fatalities…

General rule of thumb: sue the heck out of anybody and anything remotely connected to the event. Sue for a large amount and maybe they will settle before a trial.

The tox report will mean a lot.

Looks like Gantt is doing Kirby's dirty work and getting paid really well to do it.

Gantt is the “fixer”. He’s the Teflon man. He’s the guy that allows things to “slide” when legal issues arise.

Sadly, with this situation, two are already dead. That can’t be “fixed”. And suddenly the UGA promotional wing, the AJC, has become the southern version of The National Inquirer to Dawg Nation faithful. Comments about “no shame” and “let them rest” are the milder ones

The torches and pitchforks are out on Twitter.
