Braves didn't blow that lead!
Braves win 9-5.

Elder goes 5 innings & gets the win. Birdsong gets the loss for SF (without getting a single out in the 1st).

Braves relievers (Montero & De Los Sanots) allowed 2 runs (7th innings & 9th innings) in last 3 innings.

TONIGHT:

Roupp (6-6) vs Daniel (0-0)

Question about last night, though...

Birdsong got the loss. He allowed 5 runs. Giants ultimately scored 5 runs. How does he get the loss (not that he shouldn't) because I thought - based on how wins and saves are assigned - it would have been a no-decision for him with the loss going to their guy who allowed 3 runs in the 4th.

Once the pitcher of record falls behind it’s a loss unless the game becomes tied again to get them off the hook.

so because ATL was >5 runs ahead at all times he got the loss ? But if his relievers had kept the game to only 5 ATL runs until SF had scored 5 runs, he would have a no decision?

Anyway, it just caught my eye and seemed different than what I was expecting. Thanks.

Correct yes.

If the score had ever been 5-5 then SF’s starter would have received a ND.

Starters especially kind of get a raw deal.

If they fall behind at any point and the score never becomes tied again they are on the hook for the loss.

But they have to go 5 or more innings with a lead to be eligible for the win.

Kind of unfair also how they can leave the game tied and then their team take the lead under Middle Relief and that pitcher gets the win even if he doesn’t pitch well.

Welllllll, we win a few and get blown out in a few. Down 9-0 in 7th.

this team, smh.

what is being said locally ( those in the ATL) by the talking heads? Has anybody in braves leadership commented on anything of substance? I havent listened to 680 since we moved in 2021 but may tomorrow just to get a flavor.

I don't listen to 680. I do listen to 92.9 the game. Talking heads are still defending Snit and AA. Some still think, the Braves will turn things around and make it interesting. Every single time we have a game like Monday, they think they have been proven right. Then we have a night like tonight and they get that reality dose. Former Alabama player Mike Johnson seems to be the only level headed guy. He says he just wants .500 ball the rest of the year just to give us some hope for next year.

This team has given up, I think. Not sure they care. They DEFINITELY do not have an identifiable leader in the clubhouse. Should be Olson or Riley. But they're not doing anything to lead that I can see. The hitting is atrocious, and the pitching (particularly bullpen) is terrible due to many injuries and no significant moves have been made over the last year.

They will limp through the back half, trade or release Ozuna and possibly Harris and/or Albies and restructure for 2026 around Olson, Riley, and the core pitchers.

Anthopoulos should begin feeling the heat if he isn't already. He signed a lot of these guys to long term contracts and as soon as he did, they tanked.

I think Snit is gone after this season. Just a hunch. He's not been able to do anything to put the team in a position to maximize whatever it has. Getting blown out 3x at home over the last week is unacceptable. Rangers are coming in tomorrow battling for a wild card spot. Expect more of the same.

We will finish last in the East. The Nats will pass us when we play them. Sell, sell, sell.
