What's absolutely hilarious is that the only reason, after less than two weeks, a coaching search with no official activity other than searching - e.g., publicly having a coach back out, announcing a potential hire and then backtracking (cough, Tennessee, cough), etc. - could be considered botched is because of the timing of Malzahn's firing.Most Auburn fans that I talk to are Hugh Freeze or bust( unless it’s Bob Stoops), and they are absolutely disgusted with the botched coaching search. They don’t won’t Napier, and they don’t want someone that Tennessee passed over. . IIRC the Tennessee fan base absolutely rioted in the streets when Schiano‘s name was trial ballooned during their last coaching search. The Auburn base may do the same thing.

Especially when they could have simply waited until next week to announce the firing and saved themselves $5.5 million as well as giving themselves at least a month to make a hire without looking foolish instead of a week and a half.
