Most Auburn fans that I talk to are Hugh Freeze or bust( unless it’s Bob Stoops), and they are absolutely disgusted with the botched coaching search. They don’t won’t Napier, and they don’t want someone that Tennessee passed over. . IIRC the Tennessee fan base absolutely rioted in the streets when Schiano‘s name was trial ballooned during their last coaching search. The Auburn base may do the same thing.

I love it. :)
What's absolutely hilarious is that the only reason, after less than two weeks, a coaching search with no official activity other than searching - e.g., publicly having a coach back out, announcing a potential hire and then backtracking (cough, Tennessee, cough), etc. - could be considered botched is because of the timing of Malzahn's firing.

Especially when they could have simply waited until next week to announce the firing and saved themselves $5.5 million as well as giving themselves at least a month to make a hire without looking foolish instead of a week and a half.

Yep. I don't think either of them could have gotten Rutgers ranked and to a bowl game.

I have a feeling they'll end up with Schiavone, or a similar coach, i.e. someone we didn't see coming. At all.
Tony Schiavone is too busy carrying Jim Ross in the commentary booth in AEW :)

Bruce Feldman was on JOX Roundtable this morning. He was asked about what he had heard concerning the Auburn search.

Paraphrasing - Steele is the choice among the money folks. The notion being that you can’t pay $20 million to get rid of a coach then millions more to hire someone else that may insist on taking some of the “influence and control” you have maintained away from you (the very thing Nick Saban insisted on having to come to Alabama). Steele is a very “safe choice” for them in that regard. A “go along to get along” type hire.

The people in the Steele camp are trying to sell the “you can’t judge him by his record at Baylor no more than you can judge Coach O for his record at Ole Miss. And he just brought LSU a National Title” narrative.

A Chinese fire drill....

I agree. They should hire Steele and keep him there until he wins a title. ;)

That's potentially a tough sell when Exhibit A in Auburn is Chizik.

The Barn, the attitude of bama, the results of ..well.... the barn bahahahaha They will not land any coach who can scare Bama or any good SEC team. They never have and never will. Look at their history, get some mid pack coach and claim he is going to run Saban out of Bama LOL so far it is all talk and that is all it is and will be.

I would hate to see him leave, especially if were to auburn, but he has to do what he believes is best for him in spite of what Alabama fans think. IMO, if he were to take the auburn HC job it would effectively end any chance he had to follow Coach Saban, but that is a risk he has to gauge.
