Doesn't it seem like the school is in too big of a hurry to extend our head football coach's contract? Mike Dubose, SEC Trip and Coach of the year let to a multi-deal contract and a horrible next season. Then you have CMS's 10-2 last year, fat contract done in the off-season, and then this season's results.

Here is what I am getting at. 1 year is not enough time to evaluate ANYONE! I know contracts are alot of times, just to keep the coach around and prevent them from going to the NFL or other program. But this does put a bunch of pressure on a 2-3 season coach, as if he doesn't have enough already. But what do you guys think? Am I reading too much into this?

Reminds me of how CPB would never make more that the president of the university. Said he could never make more than his boss.

I agree, we gave contract extenisons to Dubose & Shula and after 1 good season. There was no threat that they were going to leave Bama for another job. No one else was going to hire Dubose and no one was or is going to hire Shula away from Bama.

I think that his 10 win season triggered some salary adjustments automatically, but I could be wrong. Something in his initial contract, perhaps?

I've always felt that recruiting was the main reason why this is done. After all, wouldn't it be better if a recruit was coming to a school whose HC was going to be around (at least on paper) for 4 years or more?
