Question: High School Cheerleader uniforms too short?

This past Friday my wife and the family went to eat at a Taco Bell and one of the local highschool buses pulled in that was carrying the band, dance squad and cheerleaders.

Our booth was positioned toward the entranced and the counter so we could see anyone that came in and stood at the counter to order. As they came in both my wife and I were FLOORED at the "skimpiness" of the cheerleaders uniforms. These uniforms were so short and tight it looked like if they were to bend at the waist just the slightest of bit you would have been able to see their entire butt.

Do mothers or fathers of 16-18 year old girls now days not care that they're daughter wears something that reveals so much? What is the purpose of having them so short and skimpy? There were several girls (they had to the juniors and seniors) that simply had no business wearing that skimpy of a uniform. It revealed way way too much.

well they have "bloomers" under the skirts so if you see a little something just know it isnt their panties you are seeing. now im not exactly sure what the difference is between bloomers and panties but that is what ive been told. i got a further question for you- if you are the proud parent of a cute 16 yr old girl, do you really want every boy in her school, along with all your pervert adult friends seeing her do a "heel stretch?" in case you dont know what a heel stretch is just google "cheerleader heel stretch (and make sure you have safe search on)

With the above comments and pic in mind, we need to once again ask ourselves a question.
"Is Cheer leading really a sport?" I mean, IMO, when the girls are wearing thin and skimpy uniforms, most of the audience (at least the guys) are not really watching the actions and practiced routines of the cheerleaders. Clearly, their eyes are focused elsewhere.

At my high school, the cheerleader uniforms were uncontroversial but they did have a pretty dirty dance routine get banned.

I was a figure skater for years until my knees gave out, and the cheerleader uniforms are akin to skating dresses with the matching "bloomers", as gmart said, made into the dress. As you skate, jump, etc. the dress flounces around showing the "bloomers". Skating dresses are not usually straight skirts but fuller, however the effect is still there.

I've noticed the skimpy outfits that cheerleaders wear and agree that they're TOO much. When you're in your skating outfit - or in this case a cheerleading outfit - and you stop at a fast food place to eat, you really should have on warm-up pants. I always wore warm-ups To and FROM the rink.

I guess I'd be run out of a discussion if I mildly suggested that cheerleaders wear shorts. Duh!!!

The question still hasn't been answered as to what is the point of the uniforms being designed the way they are? These are GIRLS, not women. They are 16, 17 & 18 year old high school girls. Clothes are designed with a purpose behind them. When a designer designs a line of clothing they have a "look" in mind. A "look" they are trying to project with their clothing. Whether it be a "look" of sexiness, modesty, etc. You have clothes designed to project certain "look".

These cheerleading uniforms, IMO, are designed to project sex appeal, sensuality and the like. And I'm not sure why parents would allow their girls to adorn something that put them in a position where their uniforms were specifically designed to project "sexiness" and "sensuality". Especially seeing the ages of these girls.

In all seriousness though, I don't have any current experience with this. I do seem to remember not having a problem with it when I was in high school, though. I think it's just part of the deal and I would think the parent could always tell their daughter, "hey, you need to go a size or two up with that, hun."

I think you've seen in recent months where some parents have complained about things concerning cheering and their daughters got kicked out. You've got a situation where they've put their time and money into this for so long, that they want their kids to be able to continue. If they refuse to wear the slutty outfit, the squad will find someone who will. Upstanding people need to call the Principal of said school and discuss this with them. If people don't stand up against this kind of stuff you will see cheerleaders in bikini's at HS games before long. The NFL is already there.

You have got to be kidding me, borderline pornography!? I have no real thought on the matter, like someone else said, it is no worse the bathing suits these days but, calling it pornography is just ridiculous IMO. I'm still amazed at how scared people are of sex and the human body in this country to the point of calling skimpy cheerleading uniforms borderline porn. Unbelievable. I think that that line of thought is more of the problem then the uniforms themselves.

hey i dont have a problem with it. hell, i like it and the skimpier the better. but to say there is nothing sexual about being 6 feet off the ground with an entire crowd seeing how wide you can spread your legs is being disingenuous.
i think many people cant see it bc they try so hard to not see it. but when a crotch is displayed right in front of my face i tend to look at it. maybe some people are so horrified at the thought of being labelled a pervert or have some deep seated emotional problems but reality is reality. name any other situation where you would allow your daughter to spread her legs in front of 1000's of strangers. yet for some reason it suddenly becomes perfectly acceptable and non-sexual just bc they are wearing a spandex uniform? cognitive dissonance at its best.

not to mention, another teenage boy has his hand all over it, in it or whatever. That's the part that, as a dad, I'm gonna have a problem with.

I think teenagers already have enough to fight against from a sexual standpoint in hormone changes that come with "growing up". As we all know and have been there before. The changes the body goes through and the hormone surges are something to behold. Trust me I remember being a "teenage boy" and I remember my "teenage girl"friend. Oh my the times...

Having these girls parade around like call girls in training giving the rest of the hormone raged, sexed raged environment they operate in a visual to go along with what's already going on inside their bodies is a recipe for disaster. I know this is not an absolute and is not intended to be blanket statement but I think a lot of these mothers enjoy it. They, on some sick level are living their lives through their young daughters. They want their daughters to be viewed as "sexy" and "desirable" because it gives them some sort of satisfaction. But that is something Staci aka "Savannahdare" can dissect. I'm not qualified. But as a parent of a daughter I can guarantee I'd have an issue with my daughter walking out of my house with clothes that disclose and reveal as what I saw in Taco Bell. I'd throw a dang fit.
