To me any argument that expects these guys to stay the full 4 or 5 years is an argument that is "me" centered.

I think they should stay because...

You can't on one hand proclaim that college/college football is a way to prepare them for a career after college, and simultaneously expect those who are playing to risk that career after college due to injury or wear and tear by staying in college longer and playing for what amounts to a pittance when compared to the scout team salaries. It is duplicitous.

To me , it all has to be a balance. If a kid is ready for the NFL at 3 years, then he's employable, will likely make a lot more money than you and I, and he should be allowed to go. Plus, there are a few players who graduate after 3 years anyway, why make them wait?

Then there are the kids who are physically ready, but mentally not ready. Those are the heartbreaks that bust in the NFL, and should have stayed in school. But who's able to tell the difference?

I believe there should be a no sign/no draft allowance for the kids to allow them back into college football. And, if we really want kids to stay in school, then we should at least have a hardship stipend for the kids and families with absolutely nothing financially (there's a lot of those). Just like a Pell Grant, since the kids really can't work they should have some other means of earning a little extra money if they must support their families. This should be a means tested number, not just a free give away.

Got no problem with it at all. It's their life and they need to live it as they wish. If it doesn't work out then at least they tried.
