Hello all and Roll Tide! Just a quick question, I work at a tv station in east Mississippi and our sports reporter ran a story about the Egg Bowl and asked some MSU and UM fans what they thought about the other side. And as a side note, our sports reporter is a Bama alum and the full time sports guy is all bama also. Anyways, I knew that people didn't take the Egg Bowl as serious as some other rivalries but I was somewhat shocked to hear what these fans had to say. Every one of them said that they wished the other side a good year just as not as good as their team. I got into a discussion with a couple people around the station about this and told them that I didn't care who Aubie was playing I wanted them to lose. The other point the State and UM people had was that they wanted the state of Mississippi to look good. Again I replied with I didn't care if it looked good or not, I wanted AU to lose. I made the comment that this was how most everyone in Alabama felt, whether it be on the Bama side or Au side. So heres the question, how do you feel about Auburn when they aren't playing Bama? Are you how I suspect and want them to get slaughtered every game or do you cheer for them as long as its not the Iron Bowl? Link to the story is

As far as rivals, the #1 rival in my mind is UT and I want them to lose to everyone but Notre Dame. I hate Tennessee and I hate Rocky Top and I really hate that puke orange. As for Auburn, for the most part I could really care less about what they do. I try to ignore them whenever at all possible, but I do enjoy watching them lose whenever I get the chance. Some people say they want Aubs to be unbeaten going into Alabama Auburn game, but personally I would like to see them go winless every year.

If Auburn was a person and I saw 6 really big guys kicking Auburns' butt on the side of the road, I would go buy them a 12 pack of beer so that they wouldn't work up a sweat.

Why do they call it the Egg Bowl???? The only ideas I can come up with are:

1) Poultry is the leading industry in MS,
2) neither team hits hard enough to break an egg, or
3) both teams start the season with high hopes but always seem to lay an egg.

:eek2:

My feelings about Auburn have evolved over time. In my young innocent years I wanted Auburn to do well in all games except when they played Bama. (Hey, I said I was young and innocent...) Now, I want every in-state school except Bama to have a crappy season. I'm still an SEC homey, though; so I want Auburn to win their non-SEC games. But I'm OK with it if they lose all their SEC games.

I want moo u to lose every game they play. I want their fans miserable every weekend. I want a "bye" week for them to be sweet relief from losing.

In an attempt to put the rivalry into perspective for people outside of the SEC, I posted the following on another board.

There are many rivalries in college football. They all pale when held up to the white hot light of near hatred that is the Iron Bowl. Michigan v Ohio State...........bush league. USC v ND....puhleeze. There are not enough digits on the scoreboard to sufficiently run the score up, I would like to see Auburn fans and players with tears and snot running down their faces when this one is over.
Last year Ears Tuberville held up 6 fingers, a graphic illustration of the streak over Bama. This year Bama fans hope to hold up 7 fingers to illustrate the Barns 7 losses and their subsequent elimination from post season bowls. This would then be followed by 1 finger, not to show the start of a new streak. To show the #1 ranking of the Crimson Tide. Something that Ears hasn't been able to accomplish in 10 years at the smelliest village on the plains. The following link is an audio clip of Auburn's former hair lipped AD...............he reciprocates the feelings.

Growing up in Texas, the daughter of an Alabama alum, all I really knew about football was Alabama and Coach Bryant. Daddy loved to watch the games and wanted Bama to beat everyone! I wasn't even aware of Auburn until I moved here in my early twenties.

25 or so years of living in Alabama....

I've gone from wishing Auburn well when not playing Alabama, to literally hoping they lose everytime they step onto the field, tho you'd never know by how nice and polite I am to BARNERS when they try and talk up Auburn football with me. My momma raised me right...apparently their's didn't. And I'll be just as nice to them when their 6 win streak is over on Saturday.

I cannot bear rudeness and arrogance (not to be mistaken with confidence). From the head coach to the fans, Auburn is rude and arrogant (seriously, the people's award thingy??). They are fickle fans as well. They cause me to believe they no longer 'get' what college football in the South is all about. IMHO of course. :BigA:

As my Great Aunt may have said... "Why I deww declare... those bawrners just aren't our kind of people!"

When I lived in Alabama, I wanted Aubie to lose every game, but didn't care enough to actually watch them play. You see, we OWNED them. Living up here, I gained a different perspective. I have learned that they are just another average football program trying to rise to the next tier. They happen to operate in our shadow, which has got to be tough.

I don't sit around hoping that they lose. In fact, I might find myself pulling for them if a win might help Bama in some way. They are not a real threat, even after 6 losses in a row. I knew that, when we were ready to rise out of the ashes, we would put Aubie back down - I fully expect to see that happen tomorrow.

I don't like the way that CTT has allowed himself to get involved in the taunting of fans (the fingers is a great example). Head coaches should really keep themselves out of that sort of thing, IMO. So I don't like CTT at all.

But to me, Aubie is like that small kid in school that always let his mouth write checks that his body couldn't cover. He was willing to fight, and got in his licks, but he was destined to lose - and he knew it. He's got spunk, but that will never be enough...

Wish I'd had this quote yesterday; I coulda' used it. Last night my wife and I had Thanksgiving dinner with an Auburn couple up here in Virginia. I wasn't going to bring up college football unless they did. After about an hour, they said they expect "the streak" to end Saturday. Told 'em I expect a new streak to start; and enjoy the eagle... er... turkey. Felt good.

When aubie plays a 12 game schedule I am hoping somehow they lose 13 games. When I see their logo or hear their fight song I become nausiated. Here is my list of worst villans in the world:

1. Satan
2. Osama Bin Laden
3. Auburn

So I believe that about sums it up. ;)

My Dad and Uncle were Bama and Barn fans respectively and had fun with it, they'd leave notes in each others mailbox signed Hugs and Kisses Shug or Bear.

There was always a grudging respect and that's how I was raised to view the Barn. I always pulled for them until the Iron bowl, heck even my best friend was a Barn fan.

But as I grew I started to pay attention to their fans and coaches, to me the absolute worst thing about the Barn fans (even worse then the arrogant ones) is the band wagon fans, if the Barn is doing well the state is awash in blue and (gag) arnge. However go out right now and notice the lack of barn flags and paraphernalia (sound of crickets) and I won't even get started on Ears and his fingers.

So how do I feel about the Barn? I don't hate them because to hate them is to to assign some importance to their existence. I think distain is a better term or maybe pity, like for the kid who keeps getting his lunch money taken on the playground every day, you feel bad for him but not enough to do anything about it.

I do admit I take joy in their misery and hope above all hope that we add to it mightily this Saturday.

When my future son in law and daughter bring in au cups and huggies they go in the trash can, When they leave t-shirts or towels laying around i gather them up and use them to wash the car. The towels work really well polishing the wheels.
