It kinda does matter though. Even in the 12 team format, the #8 ranked team isn’t guaranteed a spot because of the stupid autobids for conference champs and a G5 team.

Basically you better be top 6 to guarantee a spot considering the auto bids.

That would change a lot with the games played over the next 2 weeks.

It would change some just because some of those teams play each other in the next 2 weeks.

I just don't think this works at all for college football as it is currently constructed.

The 12 team playoff may look like the large private school football playoffs in Tennessee. It will be the same schools year after year, so some coach will start to really rack up National Titles when you are playing against the same 11 teams all the time.

I just don't get why they couldn't simply say "Top 12 teams are in, top 4 get a bye week"... why in the world did they feel the NEED to make it super complicated with seeding 6 highest ranked conference champs, then 6 next highest ranked non-conference champs, but the 4 top ranked conference champs get a bye week.

This seems like they made it complicated for no reason when it could just be top 12, top 4 bye week lol.

I find it easier to understand it using A, AA, AAA, and major league baseball. It would be ridiculous to rank a 12-0 team in AA ball above a 11-1 team in MLB. Record is a factor in rankings, but should not be the primary factor.

Alabama is playing amazing football right now. They are one of the best 4 teams in the college game. I’d have them favored over everyone but UGA and Ohio State—and those games would be dogfights.
