How long does the gun thing go on the football field?

I noticed in multiple games yesterday and in several earlier in the season, players acting like they had a gun. A player will make a big play and lift one side his shirt in what appeared to be a “see my gun” move. I’ve seen players acting like they are shooting a rifle up in the air. Heck, Malachi Moore did that particular move at Wisconsin, almost like he was shooting at the crowd.
I wonder how long this will be tolerated.

(if this has to go to NS board I get it. I figure someone won’t be able to help themselves and is going to get overly political with this.)

The NCAA football rules has this an example of specifically prohibited acts for unsportsmanlike conduct (just down the list from the one that mentions imitating slashing the throat):

(c) Inciting an opponent or spectators in any other way, such as
simulating the firing of a weapon or placing a hand by the ear to
request recognition

ETA: I saw a player get a penalty for "shooting" at the crowd earlier this season but don't remember the team or the game...

“When you get in the endzone, act like you've been there before”. - quote attributed to Bryant, Lombardi or Paul Brown (no one knows who actually said first)

My coach in HS went a step further “YOU didn’t score. WE scored. YOU didn’t do it by yourself. WE got you the ball. WE blocked for you. You didn’t get in that end zone by yourself. ACT like it….”

Ordinarily I’d say a coach could tell his team in cases like this something to the effect of, “ You embarrass yourself, the team, and our university with crap like this, your butt’s on the bench. I’ll decide for how long. “ Alas, in these days and times, the kid would just get his aforementioned butt on his shoulders, get all indignant, and hit the portal. In many respects, we’ve created a societal culture that does not lend itself to teaching respectful and classy behavior.

I posted something similar over on the NIL thread. Wimp Sanderson former Bama BB coach said he couldn’t/wouldn’t coach today because trying to coach them hard and instill discipline would “hurt their feelings and they’d all quit”.

Wimp told the story about his point guard Gary Waites. He absolutely loved Gary Waites. Gary was about as tough as they come, but he was awfully quiet too. Wimp said he was riding him really hard in practice one day. He said Gary turned to him and said “you need to find yourself another point guard because I certainly cannot do anything to please you”. Wimp said “I knew then I had a point guard. Playing the game meant something to him”.

Wimp told him after practice that he couldn’t just play, he had to LEAD. And as the point guard and leader he had to be willing to get “into his teammates” the same way he “fired back me”. And others on them team needed to hear it. Message was sent and received. And the players on that team learned if Gary Waites said something, he darn well meant it.

Today? I doubt most coaches would even consider it…because…heaven forbid….they might leave.

Butch Johnson (Dallas Cowboys 76-83) used to do the "California Quake" and end it by pulling out his six shooters and holstering. Y'all are going to have to make up your minds. Is this generation "Soft" or are they "Thugs", because you guys are getting offended a bit too much for a celebration. You can't have it both ways.

Thank you. NFL players do this stuff when they are behind too. It’s just something that players do now. Barry Sanders seems like was different because he didn’t bring so much attention when he scored.

Saw an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty called in an NFL game today after a 1st down catch for a gun celebration. I think it was the morning game.
