How Will Joe Defend Irons?

It is called the 3-3-5. Kines is apparently tailoring his play calling to keep Bama's best defenders on the field. In other words, the LBs and DBs are better than the DTs, so he'll play a scheme that keeps them on the field. Vulnerable to power running and a strong-armed QB that has speedy WRs that can beat the zone. Sound familiar?

Except that Cox ain't no Russell. Irons is pretty good, Obamanu is good, and Aromashadu is fast as lightning--like Zeke Knight but with hands. HOWEVER, we have enough of a defensive backfield to hang in there. The real problem UGA and LSU had was Irons, but Irons can be had. He runs almost exclusively behind marcus macneil (like Alexander behind Samuels). If we can get a handle on macneil, then I think we're good. Our D-Line will pressure Cox, even with just a 4-man rush. Watch for a corner blitz. Ryans has a big day.

Darby runs up the gut for 150+. Brodie does a lot of handing off. The game will be the shortest of the year in real time because of all the running and defense.

No overtime. Bama wins 17-14. D scores 1.

Auburn has a fairly balanced attack. I don't think we can only focus in on Irons by putting 6-7 men in the box. Cox has improved weekly and will burn us if we don't defend the whole field....

looking at the Barn, you HAVE to make Cox beat you. It is as simple as that. I'll take our DBs against their WRs.

If we can load up and stop the run like we did against UT, MSU, LSU, etc and make Cox be their offense, we have a shot at holding yet another opponent to 17 or less.

I've never seen him make a tackle, but I'm sure he will have DeMeco ready to go! :)

I think we will be able to stop Irons, however I am worried a bit by the receivers for the Barn.

The same &%*& way he shut down Cadillac and R. Brown last year - pressure - lots of it! I will never forget watching Cadillac and RB running aorund in the backfield looking - just praying - for somewhere to go with 4-5 red shirts swarming towards them!

Irons will get flattened!

Pun intended!

RTR!

I think we can use a variation of the LSU gameplan, but with more pressure. Cox is playing in the biggest game of his young career; get into his head early and don't give him any easy passes to build a rhythm off of.

KI gets yards by not giving up on a run. We will have to be sure he's tackled & not let him slip loose, after first contact. Cox has shown steady improvement, but his receivers are the real danger. Stopping Irons won't be a problem, but we must get some pressure on Cox.

Irons looks so good because he's not having to dodge defeders in the backfield. kinda of like Darby has been doing all season. Irons get to have a head full of steam when he hits the line and will get 3 or 4 yards. We have to get penatration or it will be a long night. We did shut down LSU's run so I think we can shut down Auburn's.
