At the start of the year Alabama's 2-Deep defense included 2 Fr, 7 So, 7 Jr, and 6 Sr. Alabama's 2-Deep offense icluded 5 Fr(2 Redshirt), 7 So, 7 Jr, and 3 Sr. This is an average of 2.77 years of experience on defense and 2.45 years of experience on offense.

At the start of the year Auburn's 2-Deep defense included 1 Fr(Redshirt), 6 So, 10 Jr, and 5 Sr. Auburn's 2-Deep offense included 7 Fr(4 Redshirt), 7 So, 2 Jr, 6 Sr. This is an average of 2.91 years of experience on defense and 2.5 years of experience on offense.

Now this is from the beginning of the year and it is from Al.com's depth charts released before the first game so due to attrition and injury these numbers probably look different now but you can take from that what you will.

In actual numbers of Juniors and Seniors, Auburn and Kentucky are equally young and the two youngest teams in the SEC. On the other end, Ole Miss, TAMU and Ark. have the highest number of experienced players.

However, when walk-ons are included to calculate total roster numbers, the youngest team in the SEC by percentage of total roster is LSU, Miss St. is next, and then Auburn.

Attrition has really hurt the Aubies. Their total roster is the third smallest in the conference at 86 when the season began. By comparison, Vandy's roster is just 76 players and Florida's is 88. LSU has the largest roster in the SEC at 122.

I don't remember the source for these numbers but I saw them early in the season. I can't say how accurate they are but I remember at the time thinking they were credible.

When Chizik says young he really means they suck. He just doesn't want to say that because it's his job to make them not suck.

Alabama has 4 true freshman making significant contributions, that includes one starter (cooper). There are two redshirt freshman. And by significant contributions I mean non garbage time snaps.

there are 12 sophomores contributing. That does NOT include Blake Sims who is probably on the cusp with his zone read package and Arie Kouandjio who has actually had some first half snaps for Steen.

That's 18 guys who are young who are playing regularly for Alabama. For that matter their are only 8 guys on scholarship for which this is their final season of eligibility.

Auburn is so young, Roe v. Wade has legitimate bearing on the long-term existence of their roster.
