I hope Shula learned this from Beamer last night

When the officials screw up a call, chew their @$$ off. After that interference call, did anyone else see Beamer jawboning the sideline ref for about 5 minutes? Although it was too little, too late, after that, Tech got a couple of questionable calls their way. I definitely think that getting make-up calls (and yes, they do happen in every sport) is nearly an art form...and Beamer has always been quite good at it...he's very stern and critical, but does it in a very comical way.

That's one thing Shula did not do last year...ride the ref. He let them get away with too much. I know it sounds weird, but he's too polite and deferential in that respect. As I remember, his dad was pretty good at laying the verbal wood to the refs...maybe he should watch some old films of Don.

Something like that could come with time, probably. He was the 'new kid' last year, and probably wouldn't have felt comfortable chewing on refs' ears... Maybe I'm wrong, though... but I'd be that the longer Shula is in his position, the more likely he'll be to yell at refs.

I agree, Stallings could work the refs as well as anyone. And, usually when he did, it worked in our favor. He knew when to rip the ref a new one. It was part of his style as an old school coach.
While I don't think we will ever see that much animation or ***-chewing from Shula, I do think that his sideline demeanor comes across as somewhat passive and wooden, and seems to be too involved at times in conversation with Kines and Rader on the headset instead of watching and immediately reacting to what's going on out on the field of play. Personally, I would like to see him take the headsets off a little more often during the game and rally the troops and show a little more energy and enthusiasm, and I don't mean clapping his hands continually like the dime store monkey or another coach that we had recently in our past.

Coach Bryant tells the story in his book about the 1963 Florida game when he walked out to the line of scrimmage, put his foot down on top of the ball, and said, "The ball ain't gonna be snapped until we get this straightened out!"

This sure is a tough crowd to please! Most head coaches know the referee's by their first name. Coach Sula didn't even know all of his own players by their first name. I expect once he gets to know them better, knows which one's and how they will react, you'll see some butt chewing.

A lot of the times, it may work in your favor if you don't show the officials up, but hey, we're talking about SEC officials. Their main problem isn't partiality, it's their incompetence.
