If AJ goes down, where do we stand?

I think the backup would become a true "game manager". I think we would be mostly fine with all the talent we have on both sides of the ball. We just need someone who can do the basics and not make crucial mistakes.

Guess I have a lot more faith in Coach Saban, his staff and all that talent they've amassed thr past 7 years than you do.

Alabama 2013 is not a one man team, far from it. Losing AJ would hurt more than losing anyone else, but it wouldn't be a season killer. Whoever comes behind him, Sims included would be coached up to maximize their talents to the utmost and I'd still like our chances against ANYONE.

A well coached and focused team with all the talent we have would still be a helluva hill to climb.
I have all the faith in the world in Coach Saban, from what we've seen out of Blake the few times we've seen him play, I have no faith in his ability as a QB to lead us to a NC at all..He looks awful as a QB..If you have faith in him, so be it my friend, I don't & cringe at the thought of him as our starting QB..I have no doubt our season would be crap with him as our starting QB..

Please explain how the season would be crap. I don't see it with our schedule and talent. May not be a championship season but wouldn't be crap.

I don't agree with it, but I see his point. Right now we are expected to go undefeated, win our 3rd straight title and our 4th in 5 years. If AJ suddenly decided to join a monastery and not play then we could potentially lose as many as 5 games. Comparatively speaking, that's pretty close to crap.

The process isn't about results like a NC. It's about meeting a standard.
Exactly..And Blake would never live up to the standard AJ has set..I mean not to bad mouth Blake at all, he's a great athlete, that's represented the Crimson Tide with pride, but, he's not a D1 QB that will lead us to a NC..Sorry if that comes out bad toward Blake..That's not my intention at all..He would simply be a huge drop off should AJ go down & that could be said about all the QB'a behind AJ really & truly..

The read option package that Blake mostly runs is fine as a change of pace or get us through the 4th quarter of a game but if AJ went down we would not be able to run that full time. We would lose one of our best team strengths (Receiving corps) and force our running backs to adapt to a different style of play. They would be forced to go with one of the other quarterbacks who are better suited to run the pro set. They keep saying Blake is better but I don't think better is going to be enough.

5 games?!?!? What 5 games? I'll give you aTm and LSU, but I don't see the other three losses with a number 2 QB.

Ole Miss, VT, and the Barn? Those look to be the toughest opponents left. I can't imagine us losing to all three of those teams.

Thank you.

And for those convinced Blake can't be the real #2, look at Nuss' résumé. He has the experience. The offense wouldn't have some major over haul.

At least it would not be as bad as 2004 - Spencer Pennington/Brandon Avelos!!! Oh the humanity!!

The loss of AJ would hurt. He is a great player and is part of what makes Bama great. But Bama is a well balanced team. They can compete with the top ten teams in the country without AJ and beat all the rest without him. I think the possibility of an upset increases a lot without AJ. He can pull us thru when the A game is not going.

I think many of us are doing just what many of our rival fans do...we are underestimating how good AJ really is.

No way, IMO, we win a NC if he goes out with a season ending injury. If it happens and we do, I'll gladly say I was wrong.

Exactly..I would love to be wrong this time, I just don't see us being real good on offense, if Blake were our starting QB..Only way we would win a NC without AJ, is if Del Rio or one of the other Pro Style QB's steps in & we don't miss a beat..I just don't see that happening either..I'm sorry if I hurt anyone's feeling..That's just my opinion..Sorry..

All I can say for sure IF AJ went down for the year is the NC is out of reach no matter who the backup would be. Is the season a complete disaster though? No. We could still win the west and the SECCG could go either way but our best record would go from 14-0 to 12-2 or 11-3 with a appearance in either the Sugar or Capital one bowl depending on if we won or lost the SECCG.

I hate hypotheticals like this BUT for the sake of argument, I would say when he went down would determine it. It would be more difficult but I think we could still run the table.

If AJ goes down, I think there are 5 games I'd have some doubt about.

A&M, Ole Miss, LSU, SECCG, and BCSCG.

I can't find a way to see more than 3 losses though, no matter how I look at it. I think with Blake Sims, you can harken back to when David Palmer had to step in and play quarterback. He wasn't spectacular, but Alabama still was competitive. I don't think losing AJ ruins the season, it just destroys almost all of Alabama's margin for error. Remember, AJ is mortal to. He can go out there and have a terrible game, that's possible and a terrible game can result in a loss, just like his being hurt could result in a loss.
