If McCarron starts next season; we will have to live with INTs

You know, you have to wonder if Mc, Julio and Hanks hadn't got knocked out of the game at the end if we couldn't have moved down the field at the end and still kicked a game winning field goal. Didn't look real good last year late either.

Another thing, those two fumbles we had in the first half were forced fumbles, great plays by their defense more than mistakes on our guys part. They won the game we didn't give it to them.

IMHO, we both (Alabama & Auburn) were active participants in our (Alabama's) demise. True enough the fumbles were forced, but on that one, Fairley wasn't blocked. And no one was near Trent when he dropped the TD pass. But to their credit, they made plays down the stretch and we didn't.

I guess we all seen that our guys are human. Trent catches that ball 98 times out of a hundred. I don't think we have anybody on the team that can consistently block Fairley. He is an absolute beast!

Well maybe not but you need an OL that at least knows their blocking assignment. That wasn't the first time a DL came through untouched.

No, we didn't give it to them. We just didn't do anything to stop them. There really isn't much of a difference.

For instance on one of the fumbles you mentioned, if someone had just stepped in front of Fairly before he hit Greg it would have been an improvement. Then talk about lack of awareness of what is going on around you. Look around for the ball guys.

I really hope AJ is not our QB next year. He reminds me of Brody all over again. Good strong arm but way too small, the boy is at least 20lbs short on being durable. I hope PS is our QB next year. At least he could survive a hit or two.

I don't know about living with interceptions, but if McCarron starts next season I'm reasonably certain that we'll have to live with Verne Lundquist calling him McElroy intermittently throughout the season.

Whichever guy we choose as QB I hope we get it done in Spring Practice.
I would like to see next year's QB get a lot of reps ASAP...

I also want the #2 to get playing time late in the games for insurance against injury.

I disagree. I don't think that being thin necessarily equates a lack of durability. While that was certainly the case with Brodie Croyle, I think his injury problems were more the product of his lack of commitment to the weight room. I've seen some pretty skinny guys hold up remarkably well at the QB position over the years. And AJ has put on some weight since his arrival on campus - I believe he was in the neighborhood of 175-180 when he committed, and I think he's around 195-200 pounds at this point. So he's smallish, but not paper-thin.

I'll add that while Phillip Simms has a thicker build, he's also about three inches shorter than AJ which puts him at a bit of a disadvantage in terms of field vision. I've heard great things about Phillip's arm and I'm sure he'll be an excellent player with some seasoning, but I think AJ has a clear edge at this point. He's taller, he's got a tad bit more zip on his throws, he's had two years in the system and garnered some pretty decent playing time this season. I hear the coaches are pretty high on him, as well. One of the CBS commentators during the Iron Bowl (think it was Danielson) mentioned that he held a conversation with Jim McElwain, and that the coach said something to the effect of "they're really gonna love this kid around here" in reference to McCarron. The fact that they were prepared to pull AJ's redshirt last season if McElroy had been lost during any significant action is pretty telling.

You never really know about a college quarterback (or any player for that matter) until he's spent a few games starting at full-speed. But I think McCarron has as much upside as anybody we've had at the position in the last twenty years.

We may get to see AJ start sooner than later if McElroy decides not to play in the bowl game. I wouldn't blame him after the concussion, but Greg will want to play. We may see Sims also since he can play and not affect his redshirt. I think both AJ and Phillip are very qualified to run our offense. It will be nice to have 2 highly skilled QB's. I just hope one doesn't transfer if they don't win the starting spot.

WHY? WHY? WHY? Does this come up over and over and over again? :mad2:

I know, so ignorant to assume that skin color = running threat or superior athleticism. Bottom line, Phil is an excellent PRO STYLE QB, and AJ may actually BE MORE ATHLETIC. Hopefully we can put this one to bed, for good.

Fat chance. ;) It'll happen about as soon as everyone learns the difference between, there, their and they're. Or reign and rein. Or.....Oh never mind.

just wondering: do you know each players height, weight, etc? AJ IMO looks very lean, but I am not sure PS is any "bigger". Bottom line is.... both are young kids and with Coach Cochran's off season regime I anticipate both aj and ps to be not only bigger, but stronger as well.

Sims can't play in the bowl game without burning the shirt.
