If you are LSU, how do you stop Manziel?

That's true audio, but that was Johnny's first college football game and he was too quick to run, didn't check his reads down field at all. He has gotten better at this and should do better. UF is really the only game to make a good comparison, but it was our first game of the year and JM is a better player now than he was in game 1. Personally, I think we would have beat Florida if we had played LT as scheduled. Johnny would have made more plays downfield with that experience. IMO, if lsu's DL holds the line and their DBs can cover our receivers, it's going to be a long night.
LSU plays great D - lucky for your defense, they don't seem to play much offense this season.

I'm pulling for you guys, but I don't think you'll have much success against LSU.

I'm with 'audio on this one. I just don't see aTm moving the ball against LSU's defense. Say what you want about their offense, deservedly so, but their defense is one of the best in the country. I think LSU's defense will suffocate aTm's offense and the second half will consist of LSU's OL creating gaping holes so big that Crimsonaudio and me could holds hands and "skip to the loo" through. :biggrin2:

It's going to be a bigger key for Texas A&M that they can stop LSU. Because LSU will most certainly stop Texas A&M which will cause frustration on their offense because they're not able to go up tempo and stay in the rhythm they usually enjoy. So your offense is most certainly going to fall below its average output in yards and points. Considering the strength of LSU's defense, it's going to fall well below its averages.

So, can you stop LSU? LSU can't pass the ball worth a flip but appears they've recommitted to a smash mouth approach. If they control the ball and A&M can't generate 3 and outs on defense, it's going to be a long night in College Station. But if you guys can get enough stops on defense, it might be enough to offset the lack of output on offense that's sure to accompany a game against LSU.

La Tech scored 57 in regulation on you. Pitiful. Prime example of Big 12/Arena League defense. Ya'll should be ashamed.

Johnny whatever will be lucky to last the game if LSU comes to play. IMO

LSU rushed for 258 yards against SC. They will pound the run against A&M and win the time of possession war. A&M must get ahead early and get LSU out of their game plan to have a chance.

I'll just say that A & M will not put up 59 points like they did on Saturday night. The Aggies were VERY LUCKY to get out of Shreveport alive, i.e. a win. The La. Tech QB just "blew it" on the 2 point conversion pass at the end of the game. The Aggies were also lucky that La. Tech seemed to get a late start on offense (1st half), otherwise La. Tech may have scored 80+.

LSU's DEFENSE is MUCH better than La. Tech's. Now, I'll bet LSU wished they had La. Tech's OFFENSE.

Now, one problem here is if the LSU offense doesn't do anything, it will just kill their defense and Manziel may go wild running up and down the field in the late 3rd quarter and all during the 4th quarter. LSU's defenders will be just too worn out to chase him.

I'm already concerned about Manziel against Bama. We'll probably have to play him like we did Michigan's Robinson.

I'm glad the Whos get to try to stop him first. We should be able to get some intelligence from that. Agreed though, I say play him like D. Robinson from MI, make him pass to beat you and see if he can do it. My worry about A&M is that it is the last of 3 tough games and directly after the Whos for us. Glad it's at home.

Which LSU defense will show up against A&M? The one that kicked Carolina or the one sucking wind at Florida? With Miles as coach I have no idea. If the "heat and humidity" are similar I think LSU will lay another egg like they did in Florida.

I'm not trying to make LSU sound like Bama, but even in the loss they held UF to 237 total yards (61 yards passing).

I just can't see A&M moving the ball well against LSU and A&M's defense could well make LSU's offense look like they've turned the corner.

Again, I don't think A&M has the horses to play 60 minutes vs LSU. Hope I'm wrong.

unless the aTm defense can stop the LSU running game, I don't see the aTm QB playing for any meaningful amount of time to make an impact.

LSU's old man football wins this one. Win or lose, they will give us plenty of tape. I think Bama could beat A&M right now, stone cold, but having a top defense like LSU exposing some tells can only be helpful. Anyway, Manziel might be good, but is he that much better than Denard? Doubt it. I personally think Bray will be more effective against Bama than Manziel - Saban and Smart have that whole super-athlete scheme completely figured out since the Tebow days, but there are question marks against this year's defense against a good pass-oriented offense.

Against running quarterbacks, the defense has to be disciplined in their pass rush. If they're going to run, it has to be designed not off broken plays that you initially defended well. This is what kills defenses against quarterbacks of this variety. Make him get hit not scramble for 15 and slide or run out of bounds.

You do this by cutting off the rush in front of the quarterback. Nobody gets behind the QB and the push the protectors into the QB thus forcing him to step up instead of rolling out. If he does run, it is right up the middle where everybody can collapse on him and not allow a big play.
^^^^THIS^^^^ this is how Coach Saban does it against mobile QB's

Except LSU do the sweepin':)

Anytime anyone brings up Johnny, I can't help but think of "Mr. Lawrence";):)

I think LSU will put him in a body bag if he tries to run the ball. I see him having very little success against LSU.

As others have alluded, 6'1 200 is extremely small for a QB that tries to run the ball in the SEC. Most effective running SEC QBs are in the 6'4 230+ type mold.

I think the real problem will be A&M trying to slow down LSU's power run game for four quarters.

Give his cell number out, blow it up all through the week. I wonder how many Aggies have had that treatment before.

Seriously, you defend him like you do every other running quarterback: don't rush past him, make him stay in the pocket, and every chance you get (within the rules, of course) MAKE HIM HURT....

Did you post the same question on the fan boards of all SEC schools????? Texas A&M - not Bama. LSU - not Bama. Neither of them playing Bama this week. As a Bama fan, should I care?
If you don't like the topic, dont click the thread.

As far as the OP, just have to contain him and make him pass. dont let him beat you with this legs. LSU should have no trouble limiting Manziel's effectiveness but at the same time, LSU prob won't do much on offense if a&m sells out to stop the run. Should be a good game.
