Insurgent -
1 : a person who revolts against civil authority or an established government; especially : a rebel not recognized as a belligerent
2 : one who acts contrary to the policies and decisions of one's own political party

Terrorism -
1 : a violent action targetting civilians exclusively.
2 : the use or threatened use of violence for the purpose of creating fear in order to achieve a political, religious, or ideological goal. Under the second definition, the targets of terrorist acts can be anyone, including civilians, government officials, military personnel, or people serving the interests of governments.

Which definition fits using a big knife to cut off heads of innocent people?
Or car bombing woman and children?

This is a good article.. I wonder why the media continues to use the word "Insurgents" in every article to describe terrorist... I mean we all know that the press is perfectly objective without a liberal leaning, right?

I say Terrorists, but maybe they became "insurgents" after the new Iraqi government was installed.

You can quibble over defintions all you want, but if you're going to say that a choice of terms is such a really, really big deal then that assumes that people actually know what those words mean. I'm willing bet that the majority of Americans couldn't even give you a good definition of "insurgent."

If they were doing the same thing to Baathists, the media and the government would be calling them "freedom fighters".

Believe or not, I've actually heard some wackos on the left refer to these savage terrorists as "freedom fighters".

Wasn't the term "freedom fighters" applied by our very own feral guv-mint when it was supplying arms to the same types who morphed into the Taliban in Afghanistan?

No, I don't support the Taliban, Iraqi terrorist insurgents, and other murderous vermin. Simply pointing out that the terms used can be a bit, uh, less-than-cut-and-dried.

quibble? Just pointing out the liberal media's desire to be anti-American... Oops I should say mainstream media, same difference. There are a thousand other examples. I think some Liberals may come closer to the insurgent definition than the terrorists they label. I wonder who the terrorist would have voted for in the last election.

BTW- It's the minority of Americans that do not know the definition of insurgent, not the majority. That's why Kerry got so many votes... Those uninformed, uneducated headline readers just looking for thier entitlement types.. Present company excluded.
