Is Stover the only starter

I don't even know if Stover is a sure starter. If Prothro is not back, then maybe. Stover would have to blow away the staff from the moment he got on campus to jump both Brown and Hall on depth chart. It just depends. Stover could be all that the hype says he is and be a difference maker on our offense or he could fall behind Hall and Brown because they've been battle-tested in the SEC.

If he could catch 7 out of 10 passes then IMO he would beat out Brown and if he can go over the middle and make catches that would be a receiver we need to start every game.

What type of player?

Is Stover, Shifty like Pro? Possesson reciever, or speedster like Brown and Hall?
Playmakers and speedsters are exciting but we really need a guy with sure hands to make the catch on 3rd and 8 to move the chains.

Stover...

If you ask me, if Stover can catch period, he starts. With the exception of Pro, I have not been impressed except on very few occations with our rec. corps.

I was used as a tight end against 1st team D, and coach sent me over the middle 3 times straight. I caught the ball, and then got smacked. If I can do it, then seems to me we should be able to get 2 rec. that could do the job.

It didn't hurt, that much.

I hope Brown, Hall, Cadel, etc. get ****ed off this off season and come out to prove to everyone that they deserve to be on the field. It just looked to me most of the time they didn't want the ball with the punishment that comes with it.

Come on guys, be a man!

I was speaking to a friend today and he made the comment that it just seemed like from about mid season on the offense lost confidence in itself. I believe the loss of Prothro hurt them far more between the ears than his physical absence did. It really came to a head the last two games when we needed them most. In the week leading up the bowl game virtually everyone talked down the offense as being one of the worst ever assembled. Then they come out against TT and played the best we've seen since mid season. I think in the weeks after the season ended the staff was able to get the players heads back in order and it really showed, The D still got the press for the win, and deservedly so, but the offense did control the ball and build a huge time of posession lead that had as much to do with stopping TT as anything.

I'm very excited about Stover, but I'm not writing off the guys we have just yet, Except for Zeke Knight, who I might move to linebacker this spring if I were coach.

Stover will not start game one. He will have the opportunity later on, but Brown and Hall will start game one unless one of them is injured or is not eligible.
All this stuff about the WRs not catching is very difficult for the coaches to assess because I have heard they catch well in practice. Zeke Knight was supposedly outstanding in practice, even catching the ball, but just couldn't do it in the game.
Stover has to prove he can do it in the game before he takes a starting spot away from a veteran.

Also, Andre Smith would likely start, as much as it pains me to say that.

Tremayne Coger could possibly be our #1 return man at some point during the season.

Aside from that, Mike Ford, Andy Davis, Justin Woodall, David Ross, and Alex Stadler all have a great shot at PT early next year.

They don't get hit in practice the way they would in a game.

I think you're right. Though Brown and Hall did improve they are (right now) at best average SEC WR's. Their main problem being holding on to the ball and in some cases separation from DB's.

If Stover can (like you said) "catch period, he starts" and I couldn't agree more. These guys have to start being able to take advantage of their size and speed, but if they can't catch the ball none of that size and speed matters.

I hope he is a great punt returner as well.

He returned kicks and punts at ICC his frosh year. That is, untill teams stopped kicking to him.

I think if Stover is all that he is cut out to be, then he could EASILY pass Brown for a starting position. DJ is set, and he will start for sure. I have a gut feeling that DJ and Stover will be starters.

If it was about the ability to catch catchable balls, I would think #37 would have been starting all year. Decent speed (not good speed but good enough to get down there and make numerous tackles on special teams) and GREAT hands wasn't enough for him. Who knows what they're looking for.?

N Stover

I believe he was rated a 4* as a HS senior......I do not understand why he has been down graded as a Juco So. b/c I understand he was outstanding the 1 year he played. Also,he was supposed to be very much the same as Chad Jackson, whom is projected as an early round NFL player coming out as a Jr. IMO he will most likely pass all our receivers til Pro can return. Also, he most certainly can return punts from day one. :p

Stover was highly rated coming out of HS. However, Matt Caddell was considered by many to be on the same level as Caddell (though he came out a year earlier). We've got to wait and see how he adjusts to the DI game.

Perhaps because their the same person? :p

I am an idiot... I hope you knew what I meant... Stover and Caddell were both elite WR prospects coming out of HS. Stover was more highly sought after, but not by much.
