John Ashcroft resigns

John Ashcroft has resigned as Attorney General. I expect that his replacement will be Rudolph Giulliani. He would be a good choice after his help in the campaign and his former stature at District Attorney in New York. Some will question his moderate stance on some issues but this position needs a moderate in charge.

I would be concerned about Giulliani as AG. He has always had his own agenda. Perhaps a role that would not come with quite so much direct power - maybe Director of Homeland Security?

The objective of securing the safety of Americans from crime and terror has been achieved."

A rather bold statement, wouldn't you say?

Yes, that statement by Ashcroft was somewhat utopian, but probably less ambitious than Clinton's promise to have "the most ethical administration in the history of the Republic."
