My question is has JPW lost the confidence of the team? I know if the QB looses the confidence of the team it can really hurt the offense. Would like some comments from people who are closer to the team and know more than I do. I am in no way trying to be critical of JPW in any way. I still support him 100% as our QB.

Re: Question concerning JPW

We have numerous JPW threads to go through, there is no need to go through all this every week.

He completed passes to 9 or 10 different WRs for over 240 yards. Had two ints but one should have been caught. No he has not lost the team.

I apologize if this thread has already been posted. I had not seen this question asked. I really did not think this would be appropriate in the JPW bashing threads since I was asking a legitimate question. Sorry if I was wrong.

I left the thread open.

Re: Question concerning JPW

I think some players if they don't get say their 10 catches for 120 yards and two TD's get upset. This runs over to the sidelines where their crew, in turn gets upset. And it is like a virus running through the team. I watched the Cowboys play and in years past T.O. was upset over not "Getting His" now look T.O. is "Getting His" and the Boys are looking good, Romo is all smiles. So, either get the ball to the most vocal big playmakers or take your lumps and play for next year. Part of me says fold, no one person is bigger than the U of A. The other says, give it up and lets beat the barn. I think we all want the later, if it does not hurt the process.

Yeah, I heard (pretty sure it was Keith Brown) during the postgame interviews on the radio spout off how many catches/yards he had. I thought ... "What??"

Re: Question concerning JPW

I would venture to guess that the team has lost faith in other members of the team than JPW, though he is the most high-profile player. After the Ole Miss game, Orgeron stated that there was a weakness on the OL and that they were exploiting it; he just wouldn't say who. The Bama coaches, of course, knew and tried their best to compensate but couldn't, even though they won in a squeaker. Anyway he was only one example.

But you can imagine if you were on that offensive squad and you bust your tail on your assignment only to have someone else on the team blow his assignment and bust the play. It makes you feel the futility in it. Perhaps that's where the team collectively gave up.

Re: Question concerning JPW

In my personal opinion I really don't think that JPW has lost his confidence. I think the team has lost confidence in him. RTR!!!

Re: JPW THREAD: Put all questions/comments about JPW here - all will be merged here!

For the last four weeks, we have had MULTIPLE JPW threads that essentially discuss the entire quarterback situation. This week, we are not going to keep hashing and rehashing. Everything regarding JPW this week will go into this one thread. So... if you desire to start another one, don't.

I was listening to Snake and Eli during the game, and they had an interview with Coach just before halftime - I think it was Barry Krauss that did the interview. Anyway, in the interview, Coach actually said (paraphrase) "We've got a QB who's playing without any confidence". Eli followed that up by saying it was a very "revealing" comment, and I thought based on the tone in Saban's voice that we would see a QB change for the 3rd quarter.

Has JPW lost his confidence? It looks like that to many observers, and if it looks like that to Coach Saban also, I would say yes, he has lost it.

I think JPW has lost some confidence but i still believe he is the QB to get the job done. I think he might need to ride the bench for a few series to maybe get him a little calmed down and more focused but I think he is the right QB.

Sounds like some are losing some confidence. Hes good at reading defenses before the snap, Its after the snap is where things get muddy. If a defense shows zone then brings the blitz after the snap he gets lost even thou he has time and we have receivers wide open.

It's an old line that the fan favorite on a team is the #2 QB.

You play the guy that gives you the best chance to win. Do we really think replacing Wilson with Greg McElroy or Nick Fanuzzi right now would do that?

well, I also questioned why coach sticks with JP, but, listen to CNS' preesser, especially the part about character, preparation and kids that care, gave me alot of insight to why kids play week to week and why some play sporadically or not at all!

Excellent point.

In a way I feel sorry for JPW - he works his butt off during the week trying to improve only to struggle during games. He must be very frustrated. But IMO, he's probably in over his head.

I've noticed on several occasions where the receivers are frustrated as well. Understandly so if you're wide open and don't get the ball. But showing your frustration on the field and not supporting your teammates is poison. I wonder if DJ and KB have been spreading it.

CNS said, on the CNS Show, that nobody on the team worked harder than JPW in practice the week before the ULM game. Praised his attitude, work ethic, effort, etc. Wouldn't look for anyone else at QB, barring injury, before Spring.

I'm beginning to believe that JPW has probably peaked his potential. This could explain his sporadic performances this year. I certainly believe he tries hard and gives 100% effort but he's probably not going to get any better. If this is the case, I just find it hard to criticize him.....sometimes your best just isn't good enough.
