Re: Julio Jones and Robert Lester are officially visiting OU. Scott's visit was cance
The general concensus out here is that the chances of J.J. committing to OU are slim to none & slim left town.
This whole episode surrounding the possibility of all three kids coming for a visit has been comical, on both OU boards & Alabama boards. I think as it stands now, Lester & J.J. are the only two coming.
One comment specifically to the poster that alluded to the fact that noone raids Oklahoma for talent.......this is simply not a statement that can be supported with facts. While I cannot provide a list of names that over the years have left the state & had success with other programs, I will mention a couple that did so recently.....Wes Welker & Robert Meachum. There are many more.....too numerous to mention. Kansas had two kids who started for them from Oklahoma & Mizzou had a couple as well. Hell, Jeremy Shockey is from Ada.
Now, let's talk about what is accurate about J.J.......does he have an uncle who lives in OKC & who he has visited on numerous occasions & in conjunction with said visits, has also visited OU...YES! Has he developed a relationship with some of our recruits at the recent HS all-star games (most specifically our QB recruit, Landry Jones)...YES!.Does the idea that he can start as a freshman intrigue him since our #1 receiver (Malcolm Kelly) opted for the draft...YES!. Is he excited about the hiring of Jay Norvell as our WR coach, a guy who has outstanding NFL WR coaching credentials...YES!.
Having said all that, clearly, the ties to Alabama are strong. The idea that he would come so far & be away from his immediate family in terms of seeing him play is remote. I have no doubt we will put the big "hotbox" on him but my guess is that in the final analysis, he will be in T-town this coming fall. No doubt, he would be the Adrian Peterson cherry on top of the cream for this outstanding class @ OU. We have commitments from 7 of the ESPN Top 150 & the top 3 players as rated by Rivals in Texas so our class is looking very good. We're rated #3 by Rivals in terms of average number of stars & #5 overall so getting J.J., while great, would not be a make or break situation. I would personally be very happy if he picked us but also happy if he picks Alabama. Saban has to take over the state to start the dynasty again & getting a player of J.J.'s caliber is certainly a step in that direction.
I'll check back in if I have anything to report from the weekend that I think is factual & worthwhile but if I am in your collective shoes, I wouldn't worry too much about this. Hell, when it's all said & done, he'll probably be a Seminole. Ha!
