Kevin Steele at DC?

that is correct and the reason behind that is that they knew we had a considerable chance to land saban and with both fisher and saban that would make a dang good combo so they didnt want uab to get a potential OC at bama. but if he goes to fsu then that reasoning behind that plan failed, but if he doesnt come (not saying he doesnt) i am sure saban has some good to great OC's on his list.

roll tide

I honestly believe that Fisher didn't get the job at UAB because THEY CAN'T AFFORD HIM!!! UAB Athletics make no money for anything. If I'm not mistaken they lost money on that bowl game they went to in Hawaii. Basketball is the closest sport they have to paying for itself, and it operates in the red.

Kevin Steele is a class guy and a super football coach. I met him at a FSU coaching clinic and again at a player's camp and all I can think about his hire is WOW!!!!!!

I have heard the same thing about Kevin Steele but honestly this Defense is going to be Saban's baby. I know some guys that played for him at LSU and he has his hands all over the D, especially in the Secondary. I will go so far as too say Saban may be the smartest Defensive guy in football, NFL or College, and he will push our guys to the limit. He had over 100 designed blitz packages at LSU.

The only thing (greed) is I would like to see a really good OC. We have have great D and now we need a great O. I think we can win with a great D but a great O will help.

RAM, I'm not sure if I agree with this. Our D has much more severe depth issues than does our offense. I think a capable OC and O-line coach will do wonders. But we don't have the numbers right now for our Defense to be anywhere close to great. We have a lot of inexperience, and the numbers just aren't there on D. Now this will change with Saban as our coach in time.

Word has it that UAB alumni were more than eager to pay the difference.

Does this put Kendall Smith in play for us as a recruit? He's committed to FSU but has us on his list.

With the news that Linebackers Coach Kevin Steele is off to Tuscaloosa, it could have an adverse impact on recruiting. One of Steele's top recruits for the 2007 class is four-star linebacker Kendall Smith. With his position coach moving on, does Smith remain committed to Florida State?

That's the one thing I'm looking at real close - if Saban and his staff can pull off a couple of big "coups" in his first recruiting season at Alabama. If they do that, he's going to send another immediate message to the rest of the competition.

No doubt your right but I Know it is the Alabama way to start out with a great D but yet again to go with the D it will be nice to have the O in place. I think we will get a great OC but I am still just looking at how the whole picture will play out. I am just being a little greedy about having a great O and D to make up a great team. I think what I am trying to say is even during the bad years we have only been beat by a few points and have always had a great D and just not a great O. Is it the coach or talent I am not sure but this is a great coach now and I just can't wait to see who on O we get (coach and player). I know we will be great on D with the Alabama tradition and this coach. If we are good on D and O that only means one thing a lucky no. 13 NC (with time). RTR and just being very greedy forgive me.

Are you guys letting it sink in... what we are building here is the makings of a dynasty.

I think what we're building here is a recruiting gold mine, and i also think that we're helping build the deepest conference in the the history of college football. The SEC is ungodly. There might as well be a permanant seat for the SEC champion in the national championship. We have Saban, Spurrier, Miles, Tubberville, Fulmer, Meyer, Richt. ALL of them have won a BCS game and/or a national title with the exception of Richt who won the SEC last year and went to the sugar bowl. THAT'S RIDICULOUS. The SEC arms race is getting CRAZY.

I'm not sure if Kevin Green was the guy that did it but I do know KG is a jackhole and a half. You couldn't fit him and his ego in the gym, in Anniston/oxford. I don't know of anyone liked him. I hate has beens with an ego.

I have to be honest... I'm not so sure about this hire.
Think back to some of the great FSU teams and one thing I recall is they always had tough linebackers that would knock the crap out of you. There's nothing more de-motivating to a running back than getting your bell rang a few times.
Kevin Steele only started with FSU in 2003. Before that he was the head coach at Baylor. I don't know if one of the great FSU teams you are referring to is one following his 2003 or not because I don't really keep up with them.
He is motivated and can motivate a kid to run through a brick wall. If the rest of CNS's hires are this good we are on to something good.
My wife went to Baylor and has always supported the team, no matter how tough it got. Some of the toughest years were while Kevin Steele was head coach. Many people thought the players were unmotivated. In fact, I attended two or three games in Waco in 2002 and many people in the student section were heckling the team for the first two quarters and leaving at halftime because the players didn't seem to care. Things didn't change until Coach Guy Morriss took his place. I know Baylor is still struggling, but there is no doubt that the players are giving it their all. Two seasons ago, they played Oklahoma to two overtimes and A&M to one.

The one thing I'm not at all concerned with is Kevin Steele's ability to recruit. In that respect, I think it's a great hire. That combined with what I'm hearing about Coach Saban actually being in control of the defense make me feel better. Maybe I'm just thinking too much about his time at Baylor, but I would really appreciate if someone could guide me to some reassuring numbers in respect to Kevin Steele's defense at FSU.

I'm in no way trying to put down Kevin Steele. I'm sure there were many things going on during his time at Baylor that contributed to what we saw on the field. I just have some concerns and I'm hoping that someone can show me that I have nothing to worry about.

I'm not worried.

If I'm the world's best chef and I'm opening a restaurant, I don't need to hire another excellent head chef. I my hire an excellent restaurant manager and interior decorator. I hire towards my weaknesses not my strengths or I hire for specific roles.

Saban is an excellent motivator. I don't think motivation will be a problem with this team. Kevin Steele will probably fit well into a specific role that Saban has chiseled out for him.
