We're going to have to score 45+ points in each game against a good team.

From listening to Klatt....Wommack apparently doesn't know how to make in game adjustments. He couldn't believe some things weren't getting fixed on the fly with them having I-Pads on the sideline.

Said there was no way we could stop Vandy on that last drive because we had a safety 18 yards off the ball and didn't have the numbers in the box to stop the run.

That's coaching.

Not ready to sound the alarm bells just yet. Defense was phenomenal in the first half against Georgia, which is proof this defense is capable of so much more. I think it was just a bad day, coupled with the fact that Vandy runs a fluky offense that we won't see the rest of the year. I trust this coaching staff to right the ship.

What's got me questioning things is the lack of adjustments to counter what UGA and Vandy did.

Georgia game was such a weird situation, though. We actually held up for 3 downs most of the 2nd half, but we couldn't get them off on 4th down. In a normal game, that would've been good enough. And let's be honest, if you're on offense, and you know have 4 downs to get 10 yards, and you can't do that, then you're a pretty pathetic offense, and Georgia is not pathetic, so there's that. Im not gonna rush to judgement just yet, but this weekend will show a lot.

Good points here. I will say I'd like to see more defensive adjustments from this staff; this simply has to happen. And it can't always wait until halftime.

It’s either due to Hubris or Incompetence.

I’m not sure which would be worse.
If its hubris, then a humbling may change that....but we can only hope. You would think as Vandy was running through your D like they weren't there that you'd have the humility to make changes on the fly.....but what do I know, I don't get paid 1.5 million dollars to make those decisions.

If its incompetence....can DeBoer fire his buddy from Indiana after the season?

I have no idea which one it is, but I'm not confident this gets fixed this year. DeBoer doesn't have a history of good defenses.....we are now a Big 12 team like the ones we used to make fun of.

I can understand struggling against a "specialty" offense such as triple option for the first half. I can also understand struggling by giving up the occasional spurt. What I cannot understand is struggling beginning to end (aside from 2 punts and 2 unfortunate penalties). There should have been more resistance. Maybe simply being too conservative? If so, why, for 4 quarters? It's odd.

Georgia I can forgive -- it is hard to be anything but super conservative with that lead.

One reason I was so sullen after the hiring was when it became apparent that Saban's defensive scheme wasn't going to remain. It has dominated college football over the past couple of decades (winning 10 NCs), it wasn't broke, it didn't need to be fixed. It just needed someone to run it...

Now, do we know what the future holds? No, and I certainly hope it gets better, but it was devastating to realize that such an important piece of Saban's legacy (and success) was going away. I hope it can be fixed this year, but I'm not sure it can given the people Alabama has in place.

DeBoer seems really good on the offensive side of the ball, but all he had to do was disturb as little as possible about the defense Alabama had in place...

I would just like to see us be more aggressive. Blitz the heck out of the other guys. It seems to work against us. Why not do it to our opponents.

Given the situation Georgia was in, going for it on 4th was required, so one could compare 3rd downs in that game to 2nd downs in a normal game. So saying Alabama held up well on 3rd down against GA is like saying they held up well on 2nd down against Wisconsin. No one says that because 2nd down doesn't matter. What matters is how you held up against the final down/chance to move the chains. Through that lens, Alabama's performance over the past 6.5 quarters may be one of the worse defensive performances I've ever seen.

I thought GA consistently converting on the down that mattered (4th) was a fluke. Then I watched the Vandy game. It wasn't a fluke. The defense just isn't good against a competent offense.

It doesn't matter. We play that half again, and they probably at least miss one of those. And if they do, we probably are talking about how great the defense was in that game. Part of it can be attributed to being gassed, and I think some of it (in both games) is on the offense. I think that'll get fixed in later years with a new QB, but right now we are extremely boom or bust on offense, and the inability to put together sustained drives has an effect on the defense. We saw it last year, too. If the defense is on the field the entire time, then they're gonna give up yards. We forced turnovers when it mattered against Georgia, though.

Not sure you can point to the Vandy game as evidence it wasn't a fluke. Vandy was running the wishbone. I remember Saban's defenses also struggling with the option. It happens. I fully expect the defense to be closer to what we saw in the Georgia first half. It was a humbling loss for sure, but I think this is the loss we needed. We'll look back and laugh about it in December when we are in the playoffs.

I still think the staff is going through a learning curve themselves of what it takes to compete and succeed in the SEC. It's unlike any conference they've coached in. I was watching ESPN today and one of the shows had F*Baum on it and though he is normally full of hot air, he made it a point to say "This staff is about to learn what coaching at Alabama is about." He's right. This will be a learning experience for the staff. Alabama is a different animal.

I would feel a lot better if he and his coordinators were talking about actionable things in their pressers. They have now watched that film. Now, most of the things that they would have learned will not be applicable vs. USCe, but I felt like I was watching 3 guys who had no idea how to fix this when they talked.

They don't owe us an in depth analysis of what went wrong and how they are going to fix it, but how about something substantive?

We'll see it on the field or we won't. If we don't then Wommack is for sure in over his head.

If the D is bad then the O needs to try to protect them by keeping the ball longer instead of quick scores.

I'd love to see some changes on D but I fear they aren't coming and we are what we are.

DeBoer lost to Vandy....it's going to take a while to get back what he had after beating UGA. And if Wommack isn't ready....Heupel will absolutely nuke his D, then salt the ground, then laugh at the ridiculousness that is the Bama D right now.
