Video: Klatt on The Next Round (Bama's D is a PROBLEM!!!)

What happens if we lose to South Carolina, especially with another inept defensive performance
That's not something we want to consider.

Suffice it to say, this season would be shot, and next season would be deep playoff run or bust.

I don't think South Carolina presents the same unique challenge that Vanderbilt did, and I would hope the staff and team aren't going to take another opponent lightly.

A new defensive scheme and inexperienced DB's arent a good combination. We're seeing that layout before our eyes.

well, in theory this scheme is WAY easier for inexperienced DBs so they should be able to play better earlier. I still think we just don't have the right parts in the right places too often, and then we have a couple of gaps as we don't have depth in the secondary so if one guy gets dinged back there, we are suddenly in a world of hurt.

I think that's like saying the second marriage should be easier because you've already been married before. Both still come with their own set of problems.

IMO, there's just no cheat code to this level of program transition and everything that's comes with it. We're just going to have to bow up, accept we may have some ugly hiccups but also show flashes of the future.

I have no idea how you got there from his response. Inexperienced DBs are learning, not relearning.

We have two freshmen and two transfers starting with Malachi unless Devonta can come back. I think Malachi is very good and about at his ceiling, which is NFL level. Domani clearly needs work on his technique. Sabb needs work and I feel his ceiling is lower than we'd like, although he is easily as good as some of our safeties under CNS. The freshmen... they are high ceiling but have a ways to go.

All that said... I'm hoping to see them continue to improve a good bit over the season. And hopefully Devonta will be back and some of the other guys will continue to contribute.

Devonta played a good bit of the game. Agreed that having Red out there right now isn't ideal. I like the kids potential, but he needs some more time. I think Brown has done pretty well all things considered. He'll get better with more experience, but it seems clear why he won that job. totally agree on the rest of the guys and where they are.

I still think that the coverage concepts in this D make it way easier to come in and if the ability is there, to be able to figure it out and contribute relative to the pattern match concepts Saban used that could take quite a while to figure out regardless of a players physical ability or technique.

Sorry... meant to say Devonta back at full speed. Looks like they split 50/50 the other day per the snap charts.
