Leading 21-20 with under 35 seconds left with a running clock. Kneeled down to win game with time running out. One of the OL took off his helmet and threw it. Refs called penalty and stopped clock. Opposing team blocked the ensuing punt and their kicker (who missed a PAT earlier in the game and thought he lost the game for his team) kicked a 44 yard field goal to win. Feel so bad for that kid to get the penalty in that situation . Didn’t directly lead to the loss, but certainly gave them the opportunity to the block and win. Crazy ending.

That is pretty sad. Can't blame the refs, though. Players should know not to give the refs an opportunity to penalize them. Keep playing until 00:00 is on the clock.
The poor player who threw his helmet, though, is going to be "that guy" for the rest of his life.

As well he should be, his selfishness cost his team a state title. Did anyone else throw their helmet?

Talk about two extremes...

The player who is penalized will think about that mistake the rest of his life.

But the kicker, who got redemption, will do the same, but with opposite emotions to the other young man.

And, the official did the right thing. If there is a rule, it should be enforced. I saw the video and he is the only one who celebrated to the extent of being penalized.

Sports teach us some great lessons about life.

I remember a while back seeing a QB take the snap, run around until 00:00 was on the clock and just throw the ball in the air (away from the line of scrimmage). The other team picked the ball up and ran it back for the game-winning touchdown while the QB's team celebrated their "victory."
For some reason, it seems like it happened in Georgia, but I'm not sure.
