I hate agreeing with Kirby on anything but that reversed call sets a very dangerous precedent in college football

Yes they got the call right but the second the head official announces the call for a non reviewable penalty then the argument is over. Talking it out after the fans start throwing stuff on the field just told everyone to throw stuff on the field if you disagree with a call.

A horrible precedent was set. Yes, they got the call wrong. It was offensive pass interference. But once it’s called it’s called. I appreciate them getting the call right, but the fact they only changed it to correct the call after the fans started throwing stuff on the field and the video board played it on loop is a bad precedent.

I don’t want to have to stop the game for every play to review it but they do need an eye in the sky to stop play for egregious stuff like they do for potential targeting.

The point is that it’s not - allowing stupid fans to delay the game and even get the call changed is terrible, regardless as to what “should be”.
I said the same thing in the “Other Games” thread right after it happened. It sent a terrible message to fans across college football that you CAN intimidate officials into changing a call during a game if they reach a certain point.

Sankey has no choice but tell his head of officiating that Loeffler and his crew need to be suspended indefinitely.

The other question: Did these officials look at that in stadium replays to make that decision? If so, they clearly violated review policy and need to be sanctioned for that as well.

Well....turns out the call WAS reviewable.

For me.....that should be the topic of discussion.

Were we, as fans, lied to?
It was? Help me understand. I thought there was very few things reviewable and targeting was the only penalty that was.

Aren't officials supposed to get together before making a call.......to discuss what the correct call should be?

And why wasn't that done last night before they made the call?
He made the call was the point. But after the stoppage for beer bottles flying on the field he reversed it. That is the issue. Had they had the pow wow before his initial announcement then no one is complaining about it.

My point is......how did the call get reversed if it wasn't reviewed? Then we are told the call was not reviewable.

My point is.......it actually was reviewable....they just didn't do it until later.....very poor officiating and that's what the topic should be more than the bottle throwing stuff.

Thanks - you just helped me with my point. They should have had that "pow wow" before making such an important to the game call.

That's where they messed up......

Look…

They threw a flag
They met
Head official made the announcement of DPI
Beer bottles fly on the field
Stopped the game for 5 minutes
Officials met again
They reverse the call

There was no review. That was an onfield reversal, not a booth reversal

After they had the ability to look at the replay several times on the jumbo screen.

I’m pretty sure if the roles were reversed there would’ve been no replay or pow wow.

The second something from the stands hits the field, touchdown opposing team. Another one, another touchdown. If the refs can take touchdowns off the board for behavior, they can touchdowns for behavior as well.

Any crowd antics that include throwing things on the field should be an automatic 15-yard penalty for that team and loss of possession, etc...end of...stops this in its tracks
Throw a flag, give the opposing team three points, eject the head coach.

Final offer.
