I expect to hear Bobby Knight talks similar to Norm Chow for us. :)

It will be interesting to see who/how they hire someone since they are in the middle of an AD transition.

yep. 9pm last night. He will coach his last game v tenn. Pierre will take over thru the end of the season. 2 yrs removed from final four. guess with lsu winning everything else there was too much pressure with him being at the bottom in bball.

At least he wasn't fired for sleeping with his players

I think John is a pretty good coach, he just cant seem to figure out what a PG is on the recruiting trail. With that being said it is almost certain that an upgrade will be made.

Do you guys think this could affect Mal Moore's decison on what to do with CMG?

i think so. the writing has been on the wall for a while now; this just puts it out there in neon colors. two years ago in the final four..... today fired! this should open a lot of eyes.

If MM is making decisions based solely on what other AD's are doing then we have bigger issues.

Are you suggesting that ADs don't consider the moves of other Ads in what they do? It seems like they do, especially in the SEC. Keeping up with the Jones' syndrome so they don't fall too far behind. Look at the football coaches in the SEC West alone and the bank they are rolling in.

I am so happy with this. Extremely happy. Beyond happy. I nearly yelled out in excitement when I read the news. The Joe Dean era is finally over. Bobby Knight won't come here. He isn't even being considered. And he is well past his prime. We are going to be making a run at Anthony Grant and a couple of other young coaches. I really wanted Pelfrey last year but he went to Arkansas. What is needed is some new blood that will excite the fanbase. I would not be surprised to see Gottfried fired this season as well. If he is, then will Mike Davis come to Tuscaloosa?

I don't think anyone is suggesting MM make a rash decision based on what another school is doing. However, you are a fool if you are not watching your competitors closely. This holds true in athletics or business. I said before the season that the rest of the west has caught and passed us in the last few years. Coaching changes at Arky and OM have brought instant results. I never thought Brady was a great coach (in fact I found him strikingly similar to CMG) and with a team full of young talent the thought of another quality coach in the west is scary. MM does need to be aware of the fact that our competition is no longer content with mediocrity, and assess our program with that in mind. CMG has fallen down the chart in terms of SEC coaches and the results on the court reflect that. Maybe CMG hasn't done as poor of a job as we think, maybe everyone has gotten better around him, but either way we have fallen behind and this must be addressed.

I agree with all of that. It seemed like folks were suggesting a knee jerk reaction just because someone else made a move. That doesn't make much sense. Your last sentence may be true, but we're still defending the 3 just as badly as we were 5 years ago. At least we're consistant.

i hate this for john. he played baseball with me in college. i was a senior and he was a wormy, cocky freshman pitcher from mccomb. obviously, he also played basketball.
he'll catch on somewhere. he has lots of ties throughout the nation, and if he wants to coach again, he won't have any trouble getting another school.

I think this is ridiculous. This guy has had some major major injuries to key players.
Do I like him as a coach? Personally No. His personality stinks.
Do I respect him as a coach? Yes.
He put LSU back on the map in basketball when they were flat out horrible.
Let's put it this way. If Bama EVER...EVER...has a coach who takes us to a final four, I'm gonna give him more than a couple of years to overcome his injury or whatever problems.
It's basically like LSU firing Les Miles in 2010 if he doesn't win the SEC.
Skip Bertman should fire himself.
Talk about ego. Here's a guy who lost many more national titles that he should have won in Baseball than anybody...and he pulls the trigger that fast.
What a jerk.
If Brady was our coach we're at 18 wins already and in the tournament.
If any other coach in the SEC was our coach we're at 18 wins....etc.
So who do we play close next?

Even though I never have liked Brady, I thought he was a fairly good coach so this is somewhat surprising to me. He is certainly cocky and is one reason why I didn't care for him. It also seemed that he and Gottfried didn't care for one another as well. I was at the game several years ago when Brady's Tigers beat us by 33 in Coleman and he left his All-American duo/trio in the game to the bitter end even though we had obviously conceded. Probably why a few years later we won a close one in BR and Grizzard, or someone, jumped up on a court-side table to celebrate and Mark only grinned and laughed.

Now, if we could get rid of Stansbury as well...
