He's good receiver. But what he did was the dumbest move anyone could make. Ja'Marr Chase is rated higher than him on Draft board. Not listed in order but those guys right here:
1. Ja'Marr Chase
2.Jaylon Waddle
3.Devonta Smith
4. Rashod Bateman
5. Justyn Ross
6. Chris Olave

They all would be drafted before Marshall would be drafted.

Marshall is likely 2nd-3rd round pick. For him to say he's opting out for season, that's a cop out, but given how LSU offense played lately, His draft stock would've taken a hit. Lose-Lose situation, but he didn't really handle it right.

I remember getting hit by Roman Harper at practice in 2000 while I was a freshman at Prattville HS. My body and brain said, quit you fool! My heart said nope and I kept going. I feel like Roman laying the wood on me was a better excuse to just quit than this kid is giving. Especially with only 3 games to go. Just FINISH!

Assuming he’s not a “team” guy and that this is a “business” decision, why should he continue to play and risk his health if he’s not invested into the team with a QB who can’t get him the ball.

This is the reason Blake Sims and Ronnie Clark will always be two of my favorite players of the Saban era. Not necessarily because of their exploits on the field, but because of their character as teammates and in the locker room. Both of those guys did everything CNS asked of them. Sims played running back and receiver before getting a shot at QB. Clark played HB/TE, RB and believe some on defense.

Both I am sure had opportunities to transfer or simply quit. But they didn’t. And when they switched positions it was because we needed depth, not to get on them on the playing field. The epitome of selflessness.

Players today talk a lot about “who has their back”. More of them should probably think about “whose back(s) they have”.

Ronnie and Blake understood.

I wonder how he handles the NFL draft interviews about why he left his team mid season? 🤔 Could this decision bring up character concerns?

I'm not an avid NFL fan, but I don't think character is a big concern for most teams if the guy can produce. I don't think the NFL (in general) gives a crap about player character - it's all about the Benjamins.

Some teams care, but most do not. The Giants this year cut 2 very good players because of their problems with the law. Rosas got into a car accident and left the scene (probably drinking) and Baker was accused of robbery (probably never happened as he was being blackmailed, but the Giants know that his behavior led to the incident in question). Heck, if you go back they let Plaxico go for his gun mishap and he caught the SB winning reception the year before. And they traded away OBJ because of his antics. They have done this countless times since I moved to NJ.

None of these guys were "bad", but the Giants consider their brand and image to be more inportant than any player, and will sacrifice wins to protect that. Very rare in the NFL, or any sports program.

I get it, but those are all legal issues - we're talking about a guy quitting the team because he's scared of the coming beatdown. While I look down on people like that, the reality is most NFL teams that can already sort of operate that way (resting starters for playoffs, for example).

About that - no team cares - totally agree. Even the Giants would look past that as if it never happened.

So I'm a guy
He quit, I agree and I would have preferred he stayed. The people thanking him are of the “pay the college athletes (more than they already legally are) stick it to the man ilk”.
Lol that's me, I'm glad they will at least get to make money off their names soon.

He still quit though, and whether it affects him in the draft process or not it's still a bad look to do this especially before you play the two best teams in the SEC. He had the opportunity to sit out like Chase and didn't and now because the season didn't go the way you wanted to you quit during the season? I know this is a covid year but I hope this opting out once you're out of contention thing doesn't become the norm in 2021 and beyond cause it's a bad look for the sport.

Btw, what makes Marshall's opt out even worse is that he called a player's only meeting before the Arkansas game to try to bring the team together.

I wonder why some of these super studs coming out of high school even bother stepping onto a college field, it may hurt their draft stock.

I'm tired of how everything is a business decision with college football these days. IMO, it's time for the NFL to create a developmental league and completely get out of the college business.
