Marty Smith Jalen Milroe Interview

Google it. I can’t post here. Profanity

Ah okay I just found it and watched.

Sorry I just hadn't seen anyone bring it up anywhere.

I'll cut him some slack and chalk that up to the Adrenaline and Emotions in the moment.

He's never said anything even remotely like that in normal situations.

The guy has been under extreme stress this year.

Yeah, you could definitely tell this was a season's worth of stress and emotions coming out.

I like Milroe, but there is something I can’t quite put my finger on. His demeanor during interviews when Saban is there is odd. Where players like Arnold and Kool-aid are connected with Coach, Milroe seems a little detached.

I think he ends up going Pro this year. I sense a self promoter Vs someone being a humble leader. I appreciate his growth and talent, but I think he’s gone.

I hope my gut is wrong. Something just hits me wrong at times.
I agree. Pulling for him, but the video of him after the Auburn game screaming about give me the Heisman showed were his heart is. OK to promote but that was over the top to me.

I don’t get that vibe at all.
I don’t either.

Milroe seems like kind of a shy and reserved kid to me.

For all we know he could be on some kind of spectrum.

My oldest is a bright and engaging person when he’s comfortable…when he’s not he’s got a bit or rainman in him.

I will say that I got a little emotional this morning when watching the SEC final replay. After the first few weeks, I thought this team would lose four or five games. They just kept getting better and making plays and getting better and making plays... I don't really think I have ever felt proud of a team that I wasn't on or wasn't coaching, but I think pride is what I felt this morning. I guess it could have been extreme satisfaction, but it was a nice feeling either way. Roll Tide!
Right there with ya bro. Happy to eat that crow.

I noticed last night during the post-game interview with Jenny Dell (HOT) that Milroe was literally staring off into space when she was addressing Saban. She even said his name and looked at Milroe, and he kept staring off. I will chalk it up to the shock of the moment and Milroe proving all the naysayers wrong, of which I was the founding member. He has earned my respect.
i got the feeling watching it that it was a combination of soaking in the moment and trying not to get emotional

Anyone judging JM for his utterance immediately after the IB victory doesn’t understand the realities of being an athlete in that position, with the emotions and expectations of that situation. If he was truly a self promoter, he wouldn’t have won over a locker room full of NFL caliber talent, the way he has. Those guys wouldn’t gravitate towards someone who’s selfish in that way.

I'm glad if Milroe has an edge to him that he keeps under the surface. Extremely glad.

In recent years I've complained that our teams seemed overwhelmingly populated by "high football IQ" guys and not enough nasty SOB's. Some of those teams just didn't feature enough intimidators and I think we often got pushed around a little, even in some victories.

Football is a gladiatorial sport and nice guys can only get you so far, so I appreciate the unpolished edge of Burton, Turner, Downs, Arnold and Milroe.

Even Bryce and Will Anderson last year, while they're awesome players who pulled us to many victories and certainly bleed crimson, aren't the kind of guys I'd imagine taking anyone's lunch money.

So I'm enjoying Bama being the tough guy on the block again and for that, Milroe is the leader we need.

I couldn't be happier about it.

A lot of athletes today are self promoting. I don’t necessarily have a problem with that. Played the sport myself, so I'm aware of being caught up in the moment. Think what you will of the way Jalen portrayed himself on that occasion. I didn't care for it myself. Jmo

He also said afterward he let his emotions get the best of him. And why shouldn’t they. No one should have a problem with that.

It is adversity and the difficulties we face that truly define what we become. As a person in the latter 1/3 of my life, I can say this is absolutely true.
When you get knocked down, you have to get up. When everything tells you that you can’t, you have to find that part of you that tells you that you can.
Milroe would never be where he is today with having faced the challenges he did in the spring, fall camp, and the benching after the Texas game.
“Adversity does not build character. It REVEALS it”.

Some of y'all don't remember your emotional state when you were 20, as Milroe is.

And virtually none of you have ever had to try to keep your composure while being interviewed after winning something HUGE like this. It's not easy - when I did it I was almost twice as old as Milroe.

IOW, unless you've been there, cut him some slack.

Understand your perspective. The young man is 20 years old, and is speaking to his teammates (not realizing it’s a hot take) within the context of them teasing him for several weeks about showing LSU who the real Heismen QB is. Surely you have heard them making those types of comments postgame.

Anyway, his utterance after the IB is essentially him telling his teammates they were right to believe in him. We know this because it’s inconsistent with statements he’s made directed toward the media. JM has received enough criticism from our fanbase, perhaps we should consider giving him the benefit of the doubt here.

I pull for Jalen every time he steps on the field and will continue to. And I don’t know what he thinks any more than you do. I see the end of the Iron Bowl different that's all. I don't have to like every player on the team to be a Bama fan.

Don’t remember any previous QB saying to give him the (expletive) Heisman. Maybe that’s my issue

I’ll drop it. Just a gut thing.

Idk... the kid was one of the only Bama QB's who were ACTUALLY doubted. (I know every QB says they're doubted, including Bryce Young, who were literally never questioned.) I think he was wrapped up in the moment. He cried in a coaches arms and during an interview. He has overcome a LOT of adversity personally and I couldn't be more proud of him. He's paid his dues and has cemented himself in Bama lore.
