As a native Mobilian and one-time regular listener of the show, I say: "Good bye, and good riddance."
It was not his anti-Alabama bias that got him canned. It was his combination of arrogance, sarcasm and contempt for the program and its fans. He always adopted a holier-than-thou, smarter-than-thou attitude towards the Bama Nation. The last 5-1/2 years have been a very difficult time for us as Bama fans. McCready's open contempt for us as a fan base was was akin to kicking us while we were down. It's what finally led me to turn the dial. When Ultimate hit the air in Mobile earlier this year, I found a new home and never looked back.
Snake and Chris will give you honest opinions about Alabama. Jess does the same things in his columns here. But the "truth" delivered by those journalists isn't delivered with the sneering contempt of someone who likes twisting the knife.
He also failed to appreciate that "Sports Fan" in this state means "College Football Fan." He recognized that fact, but he arrogantly paraded his contempt for college sports, in both print and broadcast media. He is an arctic species in a jungle habitat. He failed to adapt to his surroundings and paid the price.
I'm hoping he learns something from it. But given his attitude towards college sports in general and Bama fans in particular, I doubt it. I expect his next column to be dripping with sour grapes.
