Re: disagreement on a coaching change!

Should Coach Shula be retained it doesn't make him a lameduck coach. It does put him in at a disadvantage/uncomfortable situation but by no means does it seal his fate. If that were the case Tubervile would not be at Agbarn today!

The horse and buggy (with blinders) mentality is exactly what undermines the University of Alabama and their football program. Fanatical support for a team sport is considered by most as a signs of faith and loyalty. Radical support for a team sport is not objective!

Our fate is not sealed!

It would require the success that TT had immediately after his crisis for Shula to survive. In essence, Shula would have to win, and beat the teams in the SEC West, next year.

You see, the fans still supported TT when this happened. He had beaten Bama twice. The fans no longer believe in Shula.

Not apples to apples...

Dear Chicken Little's,

Our fate is not sealed, but I totally do not believe that Shula is not a lame duck coach. He is as lameduck of a coach as we have had since the other Mike ie....Dumbose. I remember CMD was one of our own too,but he was out of here. IMO ,what undermines the University is blind faith that some fans (without cause)keep holding on to one of the worst HC's we have had at UA ever. This program has lost ground not only on the field, but in off the field issues too,and its completely at the feet of the HC to control discipline issues.I can not say for certain if Shula will be fired, but I can say if he is not the program will suffer for another year!

Will An Annoucement Be Made On Monday??

I know that is the $4 million question but how many of you think UA will make some type of announcement on Monday giving us more details about the UA football program than MM made last week?

IF an annoucement is made, how many think CMS will be fired? How many think CMS will be retained? How many are sick and tired of this whole mess and really don't care?

ROLL TIDE:BigA:

Re: Will An Annoucement Be Made On Monday??

I really think there is a good possibility that we will NOT hear anything on monday. it's obvious that the wheels are in motion to make a change, but unless a new coach has agreed in principle to accept an offer and dr. witt has signed off on it, I doubt we will hear anything tomorrow. I would say tues or weds is when we are more likely to get some kind of public announcement.

Re: Could this be close to the truth?

There is so little information being shared at this time. I believe there is very little work being done on the coaching situation this weekend due to the hollidays. I have heard, and can't confirm, there will be a team meeting between Shula and the players on Sunday. This meeting could be for any number of reasons. Bowl, no bowl, resignation, re-alignment, etc.

Sorry but this is all I can add to the discussion.

Sorry, but I don't see Shula voluntarily resigning. if he did, wouldn't he forfeit his buyout?

Re: Could this be close to the truth?

Sat, Sep 2, 2006: Southern Cal 50, Arkansas 14.

USC must have ripped off 5 quick touchdowns in the fourth quarter to pull away from the Hogs. This was a substantial improvement from the previous year, when the Trojans apparently scored 8 last-minute touchdowns to squeak by the Hogs 70-17.

Nutt is a tool.

Fair enough. But consider also that this was the Hog's first game of the year, when they were unranked and the Trojans were the #6 ranked team in the nation.
After that, however, they improved dramatically, as you can see in this link:
http://www.hogwired.com/SportSelect.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=6100&SPID=2419&SPSID=30723
They improved gradually all year long, starting unranked and finishing ranked #5 in the nation.
Compare this with the Tide's record of accomplishment this year.

Not sure what the respective rankings have to do with what transpired in the USC-Ark game, but there is no doubt that Arkansas has had a tremendous season.

That said, there are few individuals who'd be a worse fit for UA than Houston Nutt. In any event, there's no way in hell we'd hire him, so I'm not sure why we're even talking about it.

Re: disagreement on a coaching change!

I disagree we should make a change UNLESS, there is serious conversation with a big name HC or a big time up and commer along the lines of richt or meyer! why change now and have to do it again in 3 or 4 years, we would then be back where we started from, no better than after CGS stepped down, which is where this really started from!! one bad hire after another.
You might make a change because you absolutely are convinced that you will be making the change next year... and if we wait that long given the present conditions within the team, our list of coaches who would want to come would be substantially decreased.

Re: Will An Annoucement Be Made On Monday??

I think there will be an announcement sometime either today or no later than Monday night. IMO, things have reached crescendo proportions and something needs to be said or announced and yes, I think Coach Shula is going to be fired and the new guy will be introduced.

My guess: Rich Rodriguez.

Nick Saban-he's happy where he his, likes the NFL and ain't coming back.

Spurrier-loves his golf and I just don't see him coming, especially with the fact he's only been at South Carolina two years.

Agreed, I remember only too well the gloating and moralizing he did when the NZAA came knocking in Tuscaloosa.
He was on the hot seat in August, but was forced to hire a new OC, which has saved his rear end, for now.

Re: Will An Annoucement Be Made On Monday??

I hope so,,,like Cecil said UA decision-makers that they move like tortoises, but when compelled to action, they are capable of moving like excited tortoises.

Re: Will An Annoucement Be Made On Monday??

Something is going on...a lot of chatter late last night. I hope we hear something Monday, or something leaks out today!

Re: Will An Annoucement Be Made On Monday??

They need to announce something as soon as possible, the contact period has begun and if we're making a change and I think we are then it needs to made known ASAP. We have had some bad recruiting years in the past and we need to make the move ASAP so the new staff can get to work.

Re: Will An Annoucement Be Made On Monday??

I think there needs to be an announcement of some sort Mon/Tues. I think they could have just as easily been waiting on the end of regular season for a couple of high profile Asst. coaches as opposed to HCs.

Out w/the old and in w/the new prior to the bowl game.

Re: Will An Annoucement Be Made On Monday??

I also believe there should be some sort of statement tomorrow. I don't know how informative it will be, but I believe there will be some sort of a statement. I am also of the belief that RR will be the eventual replacement.:BigA:

Sorry, but you are just plain wrong on that.
