Hey, I figured I'd let everyone know that we will not be playing Rammer Jammer on Saturday out of respect for Nick Bell's death. Roll Tide! :BigA:

This isn't meant to say we are going to win, destroy them, or anything like that. Otherwise I would've said "once we beat them". I'm just letting everyone know that at no point will that song be played tomorrow. Sorry that I didn't word it so to relay that, I was just trying to let people know that we were meaning good-will towards Nick and the MSU family.

It's a lovely gesture and very much appreciated but my stomach jumped when I saw that. Assumption of a win scares me, especially with MSU as my husband is a grad, though I've turned him into a Bama fan.

About to say a week ago a lot of Bama fans were just sure that a 1 loss Bama team would play for the title again...cough...cough.

I would love to celebrate a Tide victory and not play RJ...just this once though. Classy move if it happpens though. Kudos.

Very RESPECTFUL and I hope the crowd does NOT boo their team when they come on the field. No, I'm not saying lay down and let them win the game either cause when it comes to football I want is as smash mouth as possible. = ) Just being respectful of their situation. Losing a young person like that really takes a toll on anyone who knew them.

Well stated. When I first read your original post, my first thought was that we had better worry about beating MSU first, but it is nice to demonstrate sympathy and respect for what the Bell and MSU families are going through.

With that said, I am very worried about whether we will even be in a position to play "Rammer Jammer", if you know what I mean.

I got your meaning on the 1st post. It seems a good time to lay off the song. (if we win)...which we will.

I know I might get flamed for this, but here goes anyway.
First let me say that I'm all for showing respect for their fallen player and all that. It's tough when a player dies, and his teammates have to bear the loss of one of their own. In that regard, I have no problem with having a moment of silence before the game begins, or even wearing a patch with his jersey number in memory of him. I have no problem with not booing the other team when they enter the field. Personally, I don't agree with booing, anyway.

But now, no RJ?? Are you guys sure that will be enough? Are you sure you don't want to just forfeit the game too?? When is enough, enough?

I'm not quite sure why - if it's considered so disrespectful now - we should do it at all. Seven thousand people per day die in this country, and you can bet there were a few MSU fans that died this week as well (Bama ones, too).

I don't quite get the "be classy" thing; is this an admission that the RJ is something less than classy in the first place?

I would like to see (but do not anywhere use the term "ought") that cheer reserved for TN, LSU, AU, UF, UGA, SECCG and bowl victories only--excluding bowl wins over Penn State and Oklahoma, given the high level of mutual respect between the programs and fan bases.

Oh, and it would also be OK to play against GA state, provided the words are changed to "Hey Curry, Hey Curry..."

Again, I know I don't make the rules, and I'm not saying how it SHOULD be used in absolute terms, just my thoughts and opinions.

Now feel free to argue until you are blue in the face or flame away if this for some inconceivable-to-me reason offends someone.
