Missouri Declines Their Bowl Bid?

Anyone else heard this? If so, will they decline their share of SEC money? Why punish your seniors and miss the extra practice time?

They are 5-7. They would only be considered because there will not be enough 6-6 teams to fill available bowl slots.

I don't blame them. They need to focus on finding a new coach.

I had heard a rumor about it, but I would be very surprised if the conference let them decline it, because bowl money is shared among all members. Besides, they'd be crazy to give up the extra practice time, tv exposure for the program/university (which could use some PR), etc. I think there are more bowl spots than qualified teams already.

They repeatedly said this would happen during the Missouri game on TV. Apparently their coach doesn't want to go to a bowl game under these circumstances.

I know they are sad, and I don't like 6-6 teams going let alone 5-7, but you can't pass this up.

No 5-7 team should play in a bowl game. They should just cancel those Bowls, even though they won't.

That is never true in the SEC with the shared revenue. It is always worth it.

CBS was projecting them for the Independence Bowl against Duke. The bowl practices wouldn't even help that much with the coaching change coming up.

Why should they have to when you have teams like Kentucky and Vanderbilt who don't even get a bid, but get a paycheck? If they don't want to go, then they shouldn't go. It just means 1 less loss for the SEC come bowl season.

From the ESPN article regarding this topic, this is a sure sign we have too many bowl games now:

Teams with 5-7 records will become eligible for at least two bowl bids and as many as five, based on their Academic Progress Rates...

In the past 20 years, only three teams with losing records have received bowl berths: Georgia Tech (2012), UCLA (2011) and North Texas (2001).
