More kudos for Marquis Maze

I've watched the SEC CG several times now and Marquis Maze made some amazing plays that really kept the Bama O alive and not just alive but pumping! But I haven't heard much commentary on his performance. I think he deserves more kudos. Or have I just missed hearing/reading them? :conf2:

Maze has played well all year. He's made up for Julio's slump he was in at the beginning of the year. I know he was hurt, not saying Julio sucks! Maze is an awesome counterpart for Julio!:BigA:

Maze redshirted in 2007, played 2008 and 2009, so he's a redshirt sophomore.

Ok, that makes some comments attributed to him more valid. The Monday after the SECCG he was visiting his old HS. He was quoted as saying that he was testing the NFL draft this year. Had been told that he'd be drafted in the 3rd or 4th round. Claimed to be a better returner than Javy and has the best hands on the team.

Javy said once MM gets going he is faster than him.

Javy by no means is the fastest player on the team. It's his shiftiness and ability to cut on a dime and never slow down that makes him such a great returner. It's that elusive quality, not straight ahead speed that makes him what he is in the return game. Otherwise, Terry Grant would be better at the return game than he is. That cut on a dime ability also has a big hand in making him such a great DB. That and the fire to never be beaten.

Saban encourages all eligible players with NFL potential to request an evaluation from the NFL Draft Advisory Board. This info helps them prepare for a possible NFL career. MM has been our best WR and is more consistent than JJ (three drops on perfect passes and a bad route on a well thrown deep ball in SECCG). Also, MM is an excellent blocker for his size.

In Julio's defense GMAC has shorted the deep ball to him on several occasions. Your're right though if he had kept his stride it would have been six. It also was puzzling to me when I heard some commentator say that we won the SECCG w/o even trying the deep ball once. Sometimes I wonder if these guys even watch the games.

I've seen a few "Greg throws to hard" comments on a couple of Julio's drops, but you have to riffle the ball down the alley. I can't think of any Maze misses off the top of my head. He uses his body sometimes over the middle to make the catch instead of just his hands. Whatever it takes.

Usually it looks like MM has throws that hit his body and he does a great job of letting it come to him. Julio has to make a lot of his catches with his hands. A lot has to do with the throws but MM has been money this year. He doesn't drop many.
