I prefer my own. My dry rub is better than any restaurant.

Those Jim & Nick muffins are the best thing about the place

Okay so if I have to pick a place that is not my own, Fox Bros and Heirloom (although I prefer their brisket).

1) Helen's BBQ in Brownsville, TN ... Helen has been on TV and in Southern Living. It's just killer. The building looks like it's ready to collapse. When you leave, you will smell like BBQ for the rest of the day. Easily my favorite.
2) BBQ Joint in Fulton, KY ... The hot sauce will bring tears to anyone's eyes and it's delicious.
3) Rick's BBQ in Loretto, TN ... Great sauce, no trash, and the best potatoe salad I've eaten since Mama died. Yum! There are other Rick's locations including Muscle Shoals and Florence.
4)Smokin' Hot BBQ in Milan, TN ... Really good pulled pork, chicken, potatoes. It's routinely voted the best restaurant in Milan for good reason.

Righteous Que in Marietta, GA ... owner is a friend and their pulled pork and brisket burgers are fantastic.
Heirloom & Fox Bros in Atlanta

Now that we're in Utah there are actually a few good BBQ places around here. One of the best I've ever been to anywhere is Bam Bam's BBQ in Orem, UT. Simple, no-nonsense ordering sort of like Dreamland back in the day.

My place is Top Hat in Blount Springs, AL.

Literally just finished off a sammich, with some fries, big ol onion rings and a sweet tea I really shouldn’t have drank. But it was good! Now I need a nap.

What is your favorite place to get it and why?

This subject is a little bitter sweet for me:

My first pork sandwich was from Smalley's on Convent St. near UA campus around 1967. It was great BBQ but has been gone a long time now. Vinegar based sauce.

My next pork sandwich was from Archibald's in Northport around 1969. It was the best I have ever had. The husband and wife owners that lived in the house in front of the little concrete block building were awesome at BBQ. They passed and the people running it now don't have the same passion for quality. It brings a tear to my eye that it's not the way it was once. Mustard/vinegar based sauce.

Started eating pork at Jim and Nick's in Birmingham around 1989 located at the end of a strip shopping center on Clairmont across from Highland Park. I think it was their first location. Regularly stopped for a sandwich on the way home from work downtown to our home in Forest Park. It is still great.

Getting a craving for BBQ but it's too late tonight. Sad face.

My favorite is Top Hat in Blount Springs. Hard to beat!
