Sorry for the long post, but I need some help. I went to lowe's to buy a new washer. I researched and had some questions. The sales person seemed helpful and highly recommend the Maytag Bravos, said the regular was the same as xl, other than size. Did not recommended the Samsung or Whirlpool because customer service and quality. Bought the Maytag and got it home and my clothes are not getting clean. I went back to Lowe's and talked to the same sales person and he said that what my washer was doing was normal, he also did not recognize me from the week before, so I ask him about the other brands. This time he said the Samsung's have great quality and customer service. The most complaints come from the Maytags and LG' s, which contradicted his previous recommendations. What would you do and what washers do y'all have and recommend?

This makes me feel real bad after purchasing an LG washing machine and dryer last week. Don't get a front load washer! We had an LG front loader until last week and got a top loader this time.

We have a Bravos, and I NEVER use any of the fancy water-saving settings.

The main controller PCB died last year, after 6 years of use. They want >$250 for a new one. Used one on ebay, for under $100.

A buddy had one, and it broke. He has no capabilities to work on ANYTHING with electronics, so he called a serviceman to come out. His advise was to ditch it and buy anything cheap.

They all have sub-assemblies that are made in Mexico or China. Not fond of either, but that is all modern products. So, cheap might be the way to go.

At least with the Bravos, with some work, I was able to d/l a manual, that told me the error codes, and how to run a self-test. I feel for folks who are at the mercy of repairmen. Not that I have anything against repairmen: they have to earn a living, too. The over-dependence on anything with a micro inside annoys me. It is just as easy, at the design level, to make a micro do one thing as a million. The problem is when just one fails, the whole shootin' match is down.

Got a LG HE style front loader about 2 years ago, my first front loader, and have been pleased with it so far. I researched them on Consumer Reports first and chose the LG. Uses very little water and detergent.

You should be able to return it and get a different one if you are not happy.

As far as recommendations - I have always had good performance from Whirlpool with Kenmore coming in 2nd place.

If your clothes aren't getting clean there are a very few reasons why.
1. Overloading.
2. Water temperature incorrect or hoses crimped, blocked or reversed. Also make sure the water spigots are turned all the way on.
3. Water level. Be sure there's enough water in the drum before the washer starts agitating.
4. Washer drum not turning properly.

To rule out #4, you should read the instructions about removing any gear/drum clamps/ties before using..

After you've ruled out all of the above and the problem remains, then you might want to seek help from the store/manufacturer service center.

I am contemplating getting a different one. I don't care about the fancy stuff, but clean clothes is top priority. I just don't trust the sales people now to give it to me straight, since within a week his opinions have changed. He was waiting on someone before I talked to him today and that couple was also lookin at the washer I got. Not sure if it was a coincidence or they wanted that brand or lowe's is pushing this particular machine. It just was all suspect to me. I have heard a lot of horror stories with the front loaders, so didn't want one of them. Who would have known picking a washer could be so confusing!!! My ocd is in overdrive.

It is definitely the water level. I am not sure if that will be the case with all the new he top loaders or this one. The load was not over full and I read the instructions to make suse I am using the correct cycle. Some of my shirts on the top of load are not even getting wet until the rinse cycle. Thanks to the glass lid I have been watching. Clothes are just sitting on the top. In these new washer it senses the water needed and uses as little as possible. The problem is the water level is about 3 inches from the top of clothes and it doesn't move them enough to make the ones on top go to bottom.

bought our LG front loaders in 07 or 08 and they've been great. No issues at all

You can usually find plenty of online reviews from customers of most appliances if you do a search. I use these as part of my research process before any major purchase, as well as any intel I pick up from friends and acquaintances (or online forums like this one).

Bama Reb's post makes a lot of sense - there could be something other than the brand at fault here.

Good luck and please keep us posted!

Samsung electronics are great. NEVER, EVER buy a Samsung appliance!

I also agree with some of the posts above. Never buy a front load washing machine. They look purty but do not clean as well as top loaders.

Simple fix. Take it back and tell them you bought it solely because of their salesman's recommendation. Ask for a full refund, then buy a top loader.
I bought a new Maytag toploader several years ago to replace a failed GE toploader that I had owned for 15 yrs. I haven't had the first problem with it.

Fwiw, the sales people are interested in their commission. Nothing more.

We've had a Whirlpool HE front loader for 15 years-not a single problem. Thing about front loaders is not overloading them and keeping the door open so the inside completely dries out.

My wife has had a Samsung front loader for 4 years. Never a problem but I've never used it. My wife loves it. I'm old school.

My wife and I have had a Samsung HE front-loading washer & dryer set for about four years now and we love it. Haven't had the first problem and the functions and features are great - especially the steam functions. We do have one complaint, though, and that is the units don't have a buzzer sound but rather a little jingle they play when they're finished, which is sometimes hard to hear. Other than that, we couldn't be happier with our purchase.

As for advice on HE washing machines, the best thing you can do (if it applies) is to:
Stop buying cheap detergent!

Buy a high quality, designed for HE washers, name-brand detergent. Your clothes will get much cleaner using far less detergent than the el-cheapo brands and you'll most likely save money overall. If the el-cheapo stuff costs half as much but you go through it twice as fast - if not faster - then you're spending the same amount of money, or more, for poor results. It's cheaper to buy expensive detergent and get your clothes clean while using it as directed than it is to buy el-cheapo detergent, use twice as much as is directed on the bottle, and still have to wash some loads twice to get your clothes clean.
