It wouldn't surprise me if an undefeated Big 12 or ACC champ gets left out in favor of 12-1 SEC champ Alabama especially if we beat a 12-0 Florida in the SEC title game.As it stands:
1. Big 10-> 2 undefeateds
2. Big 12-> 2 undefeated
3. PAC 12-> 1 undefeated
4. Acc -> 2 undefeated
If all four have undefeated teams at the end then there is no way we get in unless the committee buys the ill ifs and fluke plays in the ole miss game argument. We need to Keep on trucking and get some help.
Totally agree.Wayyyy too many games left to worry about polls.
All Bama can do is keep winning.
In reality, I really have no problem with any SEC team with an undefeated record ranked ahead of us at the point, especially a SEC West team. TAMU has beat 2 SEC W teams and a ranked opponent in the first game.2 things:
1. The AP has an infatuation with a zero in the loss column. Easy schedules get rewarded. We are still the highest ranked 1-loss team.
2. Our two biggest wins are against teams who used to be ranked but are no longer ranked.
All we need to be is #4 in the playoff committee rankings.
I agree. We've got TAMU, LSU and potentionally Florida in the SECG...at this point, we need to be Florida fans and whoever is playing OM.In reality, I really have no problem with any SEC team with an undefeated record ranked ahead of us at the point, especially a SEC West team. I also LOVE that we are playing a higher ranked team on the road! Our guys seem to feed off of that!
You might be underselling its influence just a little....3rd graders in Italy???:wink:I think in this latest AP poll we're ranked about where we should be, 10th best in America, considering our very nasty defense (top 3) and our "Jeckyll and Hyde" offense (top 25).
But the thing I like most about the state of college football today, is that the AP Poll has about as much relevance as a college football poll made by 3rd graders in Italy. The fact of the matter is that the AP Poll has absolutely no relevance, no credibility, and has no influence on the people who will make up the true standings in a few weeks. The AP poll is just fodder for "hate and bait" radio and tv programs like Finebaum, etc.
Nope. The gentleman (i forget his name) who heads the committee that produces the playoff final 4 was on the College Football channel/show on Sirius/XM last week and he said that they absolutely make sure that they are not influenced by any polls. They look at each teams body of work, and factors like injuries, opponents strength, etc, and nothing else.You might be underselling its influence just a little....3rd graders in Italy???:wink:
I suspect the committee takes a weekly look at it.
Agreed, if you look at the list posted that basically comes down to 4 teams that can't lose a single game outside of their potential undefeated match-ups. That's not very likely.I don't think that there will be any undefeated teams from P5 conferences this season.
This is the worst possible criteria I have ever seen for determining if a team was championship worthy. I hate that so very much. It's the most subjective thing to look at possible, every team has injuries. It's basically a blank check for the committee in deciding what games they want to count. It's just a big old invitation for corruption. Having said that, to the other point the polls still matter, they still give out trophies, and they don't have ridiculous criteria like that. As far as I'm concerned the crystal ball and AP trophy still hold more worth.and factors like injuries, opponents strength, etc, and nothing else.
If you had been able to hear the entire interview, which was about 30 minutes long, you'd have a lot better feeling by how fair their process is. It actually favors a 1 loss Alabama team that played the toughest schedule in the nation, vs an undefeated team that plays a much lesser schedule. I listened to the entire explanation, and was very impressed with the professionalism of the whole thing. Very unbiased process. You mention corruption - newsflash my friend - The AP poll involves people and their votes too, so how do you think that would avoid the possibility of corruption?This is the worst possible criteria I have ever seen for determining if a team was championship worthy. First time since 06 reallyThe OSU/Michigan game will be a must watch.
As conversation fodder until the Playoff Committee starts issuing rankings, maybe?I don't buy this AP nor Coach poll... theyre too biased. I don't even know why we're still looking at this when Committee Poll matters the most?
Is the Alabama/Auburn game only a must watch when both teams are ranked?First time since 06 really
For us, of course not, but the last time I personally watched a OSU/Michigan game was 2006 when it had National Title implications. Otherwise I'll generally watch a SEC matchup on rivalry week. I suspect a lot of other people are the same way.Is the Alabama/Auburn game only a must watch when both teams are ranked?
Well lets really look...Agreed, if you look at the list posted that basically comes down to 4 teams that can't lose a single game outside of their potential undefeated match-ups. That's not very likely.
