After watching the ND game last Saturday and then Florida/Utah game last night I can confidently say the new clock rule is going to really impact the length of the games.

Unless a team intentionally tries to play uptempo, the clock just rolls on and on and you blink and a quarter is over!

Personally, I hate the new rule. It's never been the "game" that lasted too long; it was the "broadcast" with all the commercials.

Anyway, seeing how this is going to significantly shorten games to me it means less enjoyment from college football.

I do think we'll use the new rule along with our renewed emphasis to run the ball and control the LOS to our advantage, but that doesn't change the fact I don't like the new rule.

What do y'all think???

it might not last, remember when they changed the rules to have a running clock on PATs? That only lasted one season.

I like em. I know that is probably an unpopular opinion. I think It gives the game a different feel. Makes it important to Maximize each possession.

Man I don’t like that 1st down rule.

Games will go by too fast and it will really shorten the amount of plays that get run.

Also teams that are based around running the ball can purposely shorten the game against better opponents.

Offensive records are going to be safe for a while if that passes.

I am not sure about that. I was thinking about it this morning. We are about to enter a 12 team playoff. Say you lose your conference title game and you don't get it bye but you qualify for the playoffs. Lets say you're record is 11-2. Your going to play 4 more games to win a nationa title. That is 17 games total in a season. That is so many snaps.

Yes Sir, I remember when it was discussed and even before I witnessed the impact (as I have now done) I said I wouldn't like it.

Basically, any rule that means less "college football" is a no-go with me. FWIW, I just wish they could make the commercial breaks shorter and the reviews quicker.

I do realize the purpose of the commercial and realize it's why we get so many games on TV today. It's a double edge sword!

I'll reserve judgement until I watch a game. Could be beneficial to our play style this year, but I could see them changing it next year if too many games are too low scoring and less exciting.

I haven't noticed More commercials. In fact, when teams were effectively able to move the ball. I noticed less commercials.
You may be right. I just don't remember having to cross my legs very much waiting on a commercial the last several years. (If you get my drift)

Meh, I don't like it. Yeah it feels odd seeing that clock running after a first down or going out of bounds even, but it reminds me too much of the running clock when my son played in middle school....that clock just runs unless a timeout is called. Things move quick, before you know it the game is over.

I'll reserve judgment until we get further into the season. Like most rules, they have a double-edged sword component to them. When it benefits your team you love it, when it hurts your team, you hate it.

Personally, I love it anyway buzzard. I don’t need a football game to last 4 and half hours to decide a winner.

I didn’t like it in Week Zero but I’m getting used to it, it’s still a little bit longer than NFL games so it’s not like the game is shortened that much.

If anything it will emphasize two minute drills as the old clock rules apply to under two minutes of each half.

Bingo. I think it's an advantage to teams that run the ball and make their bones on defense. Once you start getting over 75 plays, I don't care how good a defense is, they are going to get tired and turn into a sive.

I came home last night after a softball game. I sat down, and the UF-Utah game was at commercial. I swear 10 minutes went by, then they finally came back on. Utah kicked off to UF, and they went to commercial again…after one play. That…cannot…happen.

The length of games has little to do with the clock rules…
