NEW S&C Coach Article(link)

From all the reports, that sounds like what the Crimson Tide just needed! Someone who can bring back the intensity in the weight room we haven't seen since Ben Pollard was let go by Shula! Say what you will about Pollard, but our players haven't been as big or strong since he left! I'm glad Colburn stayed on as I've heard good things about him as well, but glad to see Coach Saban is doing things his way, and bringing in people he trusts and have got results in the past!

RollTide.com: Scott Cochran Profile lists him as the Associate Head Strength & Conditioning Coach/Football Strength & Conditioning Coach.

Scott Cochran sounds like the right guy for the job. The extreme physical demands of the fourth quarter program that was reported by some observers and the especially the players speaks volumes. In the article Cochran is described as a yeller, 'Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah!' Conversely Colburn said that he is not a yeller and he placed a large part of his focus on the mental aspect. That explains why there were so many reports of players not even attending work outs. They must have been at a Sport Psychology class. Colburn sounds like a baseballl strength and conditioning coach to me. ;)

Rocky Colburn is still listed as the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach on RollTide.com. His profile has not been updated saying that he is the Baseball Strength & Conditioning Coach.

I noticed him jumping and pumping his fist during the warm-up exercises at the A-Day game. I was sitting in U2 in the upper deck and could hear him yelling and clapping. I was thinking who is that guy.
He has a ton of energy.

The media complained during spring practices that all they got to watch was stretching. They must not have been paying attention because that would have been an interesting story during spring practice.

Ben has moved back to Tuscaloosa. He has a son that attends high school in Tuscaloosa. Ben "commutes" to Starkville to coach S&C at Miss St.

I have heard the same thing. He isn't exactly a lifter but seems to have the knowledge. Really gets into motivating the guys in the gym with his upbeat tempo.

Prior to Spring Practice, Saban was really focusing on running and doing conditioning drills that were more position specific, which makes it hard to add alot of size and strength. I have heard that on lifting days, which was 3 times a week, they keep alot of trainers in the WR. Every station has a trainer to assist and the workouts are posted on the screens so everyone can see. From the pictures I have seen of the new facilities, you couldn't ask for a better gym to get into shape. It is First Class all the way.

As for Rocky, I think he is still invloved to a degree. He might work with the baseball team but I think he probably still keeps his hands in the mix with the football players.

I am sure with Spring Practice over, the guys will start trying to get back to lifting hard. Some guys will probably head back home and hopefully continue training once Summer starts but I bet Saban will push for alot of guys to be enrolled in Summer classes so they can take advantage of the gym.

cochran is very high energy. watching him at the coaches clinic was inspiring. he is responsible for the up-tempo pace of practice, always yelling, motivating. he also knows his stuff so i'm glad he's here.
